Bring Back the Draft! College Kids today...say "it's not my problem...
here, buddy."

Unless you have a draft you won't understand what Vietnam was about. Because YOU...like the CHIMP will never be called up to have your body maimed...losing arms and legs or your whole life Fucked up or Ended because some Govt. Selective Service made and artibtrary decision about how much your family was worth and their "influence" to know if you should die, be maimed or psychologically destroyed by fighting a war you didn't know what the hell was about. :puke:

DON'T bring back the draft. Some of us college kids DO understand what that would mean. Don't punish us for the musing of a few fucking morons whose only concept of war is what they learned by watching Rambo.

6. Yes, but the difference between THEN and NOW is that College Students
and others WERE DRAFTED...and died in the Jungles of Vietnam for a war where their names are on a memorial in DC...but that folks today want to say this was a GOOD WAR..except for those "pacifists" who don't realize the REAL threat by Terrorists to our Nation.

THEY SAY: "9/11 Changed Everything.....WE SAY: "It's the same old song and dance you said which cost a generation it's "best and brightest" (everyone went in Vietnam...not just Guatemalans, Mexicans and those who don't have any other way to get an education...by volunteering...see Michael Moore's Movie for this...Flint, Mich.)

With Vietnam...in those days one COULD get a good job...but those who could were shipped over there with the DRAFT and it was all about the "NUMBER" you were assigned. Like a LOTTERY FROM HELL...WHICH SENT YOU INTO HELL!

It was "up for grabs" and your FAMILY INFLUENCE KEPT YOU OUT OR GOT YOU INTO: Coast Guard, or what BUSH did with Air Force where you sat it out in America!

Bring back the draft and see what happens in the Colleges when they lose the "tuition folks who pay their salaries."

SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

11. If You Agree the Draft Was HORRIBLE, Why Do You Want to Bring it Back?
Do you really think that it is the ONLY way to get college kids interested in stopping the war in Iraq?

I think there are better ways.

You keep your hands the hell off of my kids. Your reasoning is flawed. Just how many children are you willing to kill to make a fucking point? If Kerry came out for the draft and bush was against , bush would get my vote. There is NO valid reason to have a draft. My guess is you don't have horse in this race. I bet you have no draft age children. I have two. Nothing pisses me off more then a democrat asking for the return of draft.

3. I agree.
I hate this war. I disagree with it. I know the stakes. I shouldn't be punished for it.

8. No one asked to be punished for Vietnam in the "draft days," either...
It's hard for some of you to understand that lives were changed with "The Draft." And the "clever" and "influenced" got out of it...but the rest of them went.

I hope from your post you are out there every day telling your fellow students what could happen if the "Draft" is re-instated. I hope you can get folks to listen to what you say!

4. While we're at it, why not just reelect Bush
so that the Democratic Party will become more liberal? Yeah, that'll teach us all a lesson. :eyes:

10. Those college kids would be wrong.
This new draft isn't like the Vietnam draft. Kids in college will get to finish the semester and that is it.

The draft was wrong then and it would be wrong now. Those with wealth (the Bushes and other rich people) will get their kids of of it. Bush's daughters wouldn't drafted. Neither would his nephew...

On the other hand, myself and other posters on this thread of college age with no connections would be drafted.

If you want to see people die just to teach kids a lesson, then your priorities are twisted.

13. The Draft!
I remember my male friends living in absolute terror of their "number." I recall the terrified faces of those who were called and whose faces I neve saw again. I remember the friends who had to make the choice of leaving their own country because they did not want to be responsible for bringing death to other human beings. And I also recall those whose political connections and waivers protected them from all of it. Volunteering for the military is a whole different ballgame; I did it myself. Choice is one thing, force is another.

a lot of people who lived through the draft still support Bush and support this war.

18. If there'd been a draft in 2002, we wouldn't be in Iraq now
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 07:11 PM by A_Possum
A draft for male and female, heck maybe even a draft for old fogies like me. They're calling back 60-yr-olds to Iraq now.

It's a whole different ballgame when it might be your number or your kids' number coming up. Bush and Co would never have been able to get Iraq off the drawing board.

Maybe Afghanistan, but probably not that either.
