Sarkozy Calls it for Obama
Nicolas Sarkozy was quoted in Italy's La Repubblica saying about Obama, "He is my friend. Contrary to my diplomatic counselors, I never believed in the possibility of a Clinton victory and I have always thought that it will be he who is elected."

"E' un mio amico - ha detto in un'intervista - contrariamente ai miei consiglieri diplomatici, non ho mai creduto nelle possibilità di vittoria della Clinton e ho sempre pensato che sarà lui a essere eletto".

The article mentions that Sarkozy met with McCain in the spring.

1. The trouble with translation:
English from Italian from French - in the quote I saw earlier, French to English, he was referring to Obama getting the nomination over Clinton, not winning the general election.

Of course, not being a French speaker I have no idea what he REALLY said.

3. Don't actually have it - I was referring to the direct english translation
over the english-Italian translation. Obviously, only the actual statement in French would tell which is correct.

Sorry if I was unclear. Presumably the original, in French, is somewhere online but I wouldn't be able to pick it out if I saw it.

appreciate the offer, however.

4. No problem.
And you're right, as far as I can tell from french language articles he was speaking of the primary.
