Hey Will Pitt, or anyone else with any publishing connections
Regenery Publishing really screwed up on the production of the "Unfit for Command" book. It was originally planned to come out Sept 1st and didn't have a very big printing planned. Also, it's printed overseas (like almost all hardcovers are) which is also hampering it's distribution.

I work for a very large bookseller. We've literally sold 1000 copies of the 9/11 report but at this point we've received and sold a whopping 14 copies of "Unfit for Command" and are expecting maybe 20-25 more copies this week. Of course, the freepers have been whipped into a frenzy by RW radio and TV and have been angrily attacking and alienating my booksellers for not having the book. Saying we're "censoring" it, yada, yada.

However, a paperback with a simple cover can be done on the quick and cheap. With the info that has just come out in the last few days, along with all the documentation that previously existed a savage refutation of the Swift Boat Liars and the Bush mafiaso-moneymen behind them could be literally cranked out within a couple of weeks. Literally flooding bookstores before Regenery can get their slick, hardcover, overseas-printed, book in stock in many or most bookstore.

Sure, this will make the freepers even more enraged and accusing everyone of "censoring" their book. But I'm willing to take that abuse if some publisher out there can make this happen.

1. i think regenery is putting a hold on
printing..even with cheap labor overseas it will still cost them money if there is no demand. they will delay the next print run until they see if the book/sb people are completely discredited and may be open to lawsuit..i work for a large usa printer of magazines and speciality publications and notice the tricks of the trade...

2. Not sure what you're asking
Do you need an author to slam out a book real quick for publication? If so, I'm you're man. PM me.

4. It'll probably take a team of authors to crank this puppy out
It's something you'd want to complete in oh, 3 or 4 days. But I've got no publishing connections.

My point is a comprehensive vicious rebuttal could be put out in bookstores before the bulk of "Unfit for Command" reaches the same bookstores.

7. From John Marshall
I have no way of knowing whether this guy was where he says he was on that day. And it could be a hoax. But I did call the editor of the paper, Suzanne Cheavens. She says she knows the guy (small town, I guess), knows he's a Vietnam vet, and vouched for his credibility.

Some reporter should see if they can track this down and confirm or dispute that he was there on the day in question.

Care to go to Telluride Will? That's my old stomping ground.

6. Anyone--or any Group--on DU could do this in a heartbeat. Here's how.

On-Demand Publishing: You write the book then send various on-demand printing companies and online booksellers files with the text and the cover art. They print and ship perfect bound, soft cover copies as each book, or maybe a block of books as they are ordered.

The process is now just a little more expensive than short runs of traditionally published soft covers.

The rest is PR, and maybe getting someone to pay for a short run to try to place in brick and mortar booksellers.

I run the PR operation for a company that is deeply involved in one of the aspects of this process, and I'd be happy to provide specific info if you PM me.
