"Tell him to stop lying about my record," Dole snapped. (Ah, memories.)
.
Yep, Bob Dole is said to have ruined his chances for the Presidency in 1988 by his clench-jawed demand for Bush I to 'stop lying about his record.'

---------------------------

"I think if it hadn't been for his false advertising the last three days, we would have beaten him," Dole said on primary night.

In a tense notional TV interview, an anchorman asked Dole if he had anything to say to Bush, who was also on camera. "Tell him to stop lying about my record," Dole snapped.

5. Some people are done wrong
and they don't want it to happen to someone else so they will do what they can to prevent anyone else from suffering the same way. Some people though are callous and figure that they had to suffer so the 'next guy' can just suffer too, apparently that is Dole's attitude. :-(
