Whatever happened to the Saudis as a campaign issue?
Remember in Kerry's convention speech when he mentioned the Saudis and something to the effect of "I want an America that is dependent on its own innovation, not the Saudi royal family."

It was one of the best lines in the whole speech. It clicked with focus groups -- even Republicans in focus groups.

So why haven't we heard much about that since?

1. Id guess it's a hard case to make
I mean you have to sit someone down and explain to them why President Bush's Saudi connection is troubling and what Saudi Arabia is all about. On a stump speech it's too much wind up to get a moderate sting.

That's my guess, anyway

2. To be honest, I think that this week should be overtime and Iraq.
Those are two losing issues for Shrubby, a way to nuke the not-so-Swift-Boaters until the lawsuit comes to fruition. Kerry (via Edwards) can take control of the news for this week by highlighting the shafting of the non-rich in this country, and then make the RNC seem like an out-of-touch tantrum by the Repubs.

But then again, I'm not a poli/sci major.

3. I don't think overtime is gonna cut it as an issue
It's almost as confusing as the Medicare "reform" legislation.

There are other "below the radar" issues that have resonance with the public that aren't getting any attention as we all thrash around in the Swift Boat Swamp -- stem cell research, for instance.

4. I disagree.
People will notice that they are being paid less and treated less fairly, will they not?
