A Democratic change is coming (my weekend)
So I began my MSW orientation this weekend and the state rep for NASW (National Association of Social Workers) came to the class and STRESSED the importance of 1) VOTING in this year's election, especially since we're a swing state, and making sure everyone was registered to vote. (NASW supports Kerry) AND 2) getting involved in legislative processes on the state level. That was way cool.

Then I went to church Sunday and after church there was a farewell gathering for a family returning to Singapore. EVERYONE sitting at my table were DEMOCRATS. They are voting Kerry/Edwards and they couldn't fathom how anyone could logically vote for Bush. This was at a Methodist church, people, which is the denomination Bush claims to be.

Last night we went to dinner with the Singapore couple. The restaurant we went to had KERRY SIGNS posted in the restaurant!

How cool was my weekend? :-) I sense change in the air and people are FED UP.

2. You're a fellow Zonie, aren't you?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Either way, here in AZ, I'm sensing a bit of a swing left. I credit Janet Napolitano for a lot of that.

I think we could very well go blue this year.

8. Demographics.
More people (like me) are moving here from blue states. It takes time, but slowly things change. I also agree Napolitano has done a clever job as being a Democratic governor who puts the lie to the tax and spend, liberal stuff people have been led to fear. And of course, after Fife, anyone looks good.

3. There is something in the air
When you turn off the TV, step away from the internet and start talking to the people you meet, the mood for change in this country is undeniable.

We have lots of hard work ahead of us if we are to convert this mood into victory in November, but the opportunity is right there waiting for us to grasp it.

7. I live in a red state, along the coast of MS
Granted the Gulf Coast has always been considered more liberal than the rest of the state (we have casinos you know), but I was encouraged last night while watching a local talk show that discusses issues and takes calls.

Last night was about the Swift lies and they had a dem politician, former vietnam vet, and a repug vietnam vet. They did their spill and the talking head (neocon transplant from Minnesota) tried to spin it, but the majority of the calls that came in were against the ads. They were tired of living in the past, this was 35 years ago, and Kerry served in vietnam and that should be the end of it.

Most agreed that the issue is the war in Iraq and why we are still there.

The last caller even called GWB a desserter and said that it was appalling that he would attack his nation and his government by challenging Kerry's medals.

It was very encouraging and enlightening. More for Kerry than against, which surprised me tremendously.
