2. I can't watch CNN anymore but I respect David Gergen. He seems to be
honest and fair for the most part.

3. a man of reason...
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 11:16 AM by berner59
Saying this is a diversion - plain and simple... Said this could backfire on Bush if people are convinced this is below the belt, which is where it's heading...

IMO...if Bush denounced them now - it's too late... I think the connecting of these to the McCain & Cleland ads really sends the message...

14. I heard that, too!
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 11:43 AM by eleny
I had just been listening to our local talk show guy, Peter Boyles. He had Malkin on and was commiserating with her about how Matthews went after her last week. So I gave up in disgust and switched to NPR just in time to hear Cokie's comment. Bah!

At that point it was time for me to haul my lazy, retired butt out of bed and listen to Lynn Cullen on streaming internet. AAR can't come to Denver radio soon enough!

Edit: Welcome to DU!!!!

Except I am lucky enough to hear her on local radio. Wasn't she great in handling the swift boat veterans sympathizers?

6. He said a lot more than just that!
Although I don't always agree with Gergen, he does seem to be the most realistic and fair comentor on cable.

He said he was very surprised at Bob Dole's remarks yesterday, and that we used to have a certain respect for anybody who served their country, after all, Kerry did volunteer for service, and volunteer for Swift Boat Duty, and he's the only candidate on a major national ticket who did.

He also said these smear ads work in the SHORT TERM, but when a lot of what they say is proven to be false, they usually backfire on the candidate, so shrub should denounce these ads.

9. the FRAGGING of Lt. John Kerry continues,
Edited on Mon Aug-23-04 11:24 AM by Anj
there will be no let up between now and November. Please realize this. We haven't even seen the worst they will hurl at him- it's only August. Once this filth stops paying off, they'll just dredge(drudge) up something worse.

10. Mr. Gergen Is Quite Right
The refusal of the usurper to denounce these smears is becoming the story they provode, along with the mounting evidence of coordination between these smear artists and the Republican Party apparatus.

The continuation of these smear artists in the public view forces the people to begin to compare and contrast for themselves the combat service of Sen. Kerry with the sorry record of evading combat and funking even safe duty compiled by the coward from Midland. This can be of benefit to only one of these two figures....

"That chicken-hawk squawk ain't worth the shrapnel in John Kerry's ass!"

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

15. If the campaign backed the ads, and shrub denounces the ads.....
The 'limpdicks for truth'in turn, will squeal like pigs stuck in a tunnel.

Which is why shrub cannot and will not say bo-diddly.

Kee-rist on a crutch, this campaign sure is snake-bit aint it ? First the 9/11 firefighter ads, then the limpdicks for truth, now the olympics ad.

Maybe Rover is losing his touch. The devil figured his soul was only worth so much, like the pelt of a skunk.

23. Well, According To NPR Local Affiliate, Kerry Had It Coming
On Talk of Iowa this morning, NPR host Perkins and PolSci Prof Schmidt decried the Harkin comments (RE:Cheney) and stated that Kerry brought this on himself by making his Vietnam record the centerpiece of his campaign.

The most disgusting part of the show, however, was when they let a freeper caller go on for 10 min., hitting on all the GOP talking points (self-inflicted, three months and out, plan for glory, etc.) with no interjection for balance.

NPR, and in particular local affiliate WOI, is now just another cog in the Iron Heel's propaganda machine.
