"I wrote that John McCain was an honorable man and he would run an honorable campaign. I was wrong."

A few months ago, I wrote that John McCain was an honorable man and he would run an honorable campaign. I was wrong. I used to think, as David Ignatius does, that McCain's true voice was humble and moderate, but now I'm beginning to think his Senate colleagues may be right about his temperament. From what I can gather, Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran, a Republican, reflected the views of many of his colleagues earlier this year when he said:

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine...He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

The erratic nature of McCain's campaign seems to be confirming that judgment. The McCain I used to know would never have touted his own courage as he did a few weeks ago when he said:

"I had the courage and the judgment to say that I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war.It seems to me that Senator Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign."

Courage is grace under pressure. McCain showed it when he was a prisoner of war, and on many issues--yes, even on his stubborn insistence that the surge would work--but he is not showing it now. He is showing flop sweat. It is not a quality usually associated with successful leadership.

2. All you have to do is watch his wife and how she mechanically moves to her spot.

She acts as though she is programmed to always be behind him, move when he moves, smile when he says and say what he tells her to say. It makes me sick to my stomach each time I see her with him. Her actions give me the impression she has been told in no uncertain terms that she is not to upstage him and is only for show.

Granted, she has enough money and independent spirit she could tell him where to get off, but that just makes the scene that much more painful to watch.

By watching his wife, you can get an insight into the man.

Just sayin'.

5. Instead of the incessant honoring of his military service...
...why does no one consider PTSD. It seems he went directly from his rescue to the senate without the manditory stay in the VA psych ward. Let's just hope that the physical and emotional stress of campaigning will reveal whatever we need to know about him. I'm hoping for the macaca moment...that one thing, one word that will reveal his true colors.

9. Be patient, it will come.
McCain is the Archie Bunker of the Senate, he is a racist. However, he isn't just against blacks, he hates all of them. He is an equal opportunity offender. He referred to Vietnamese in 2000 as "gooks" while campaigning for President, and he did NOT qualify his statement to mean he was only referring to his captors. McCain doesn't like Hispanics, but he will pander to them. Just this week, McCain came out against affirmative action in his state of Arizona, one of the last states in the country to acknowledge Martin Luther King's birthday as a holiday.

You don't see pictures of McCain's family anywhere. He doesn't want anyone to see that he adopted a black baby from Africa years ago. Bush upset McCain to become the GOP candidate in 2000 over that child. Not too many Republicans are willing to embrace that concept, not even in 2008.

6. Good...McCain is a shit
Most MSM'ers will stick with the war hero meme, but Klein's a dog whistle for many in the punditocracy...and he gets plenty of air time.
