Note to Kerry: Do NOT agree with Bush's 527 position.
Instead, slam him AGAIN.

Republicans are falling WAY back to this "Kerry hates free speech" shit. Totally wrong. That is BUSH'S position- he wants to get rid of 527's entirely. Kerry should be slamming BUSH with that meme- Bush wants to destroy the 1st Amendment.

Our position should be that 527's need to be financially liable for the things that they say, like any news media, and that they need to maintain STRICT separation from campaigns.

1. And No Smears!
I mean, the 527s should be free to run their ads, but they can't engage in character assasinations and smear tactics. It should be about the issues.

2. Right. That's the "they have to be financially liable for what they say"
part. They should be able to be sued.

3. I agree with both of you. Dems usually have less money to run
campaigns...this year was different because we all participated in donations etc.

I think that if 527's were squashed, that would create a wide, clear highway for Repubs to spend their gazillions of $$ on their ads. They out spend us 2 or 3 to 1 on such things.

Making the 527s use smart adverts and making them liable may be a good thing...shutting them down would leave one party at a disadvantage. Good post.

5. Yeah, and that is just
what they want to be able to spend and spend and spend while the Democrats are left penniless to answer them back.

4. Ditto
Kerry should not take the bait about 527's.

To paraphrase Carville: "It's the Swift Boat Lies, Stupid."
