In Defense Of Chris Matthews...
At least he doesn't have a liberal punching bag like Alan Colmes to make him look good...

He takes people on mano on mano....

How many of the others do that?

1. Tweety Was Completely Even Handed Tonight
and I have lost a lot of respect for some DU'ers who are slamming him for tonights show.

Is it HIS fault that noone in the Kerry camp or the Dems going to tv can't come up with the easy rebuttal:

Kerry was a whistleblower after coming back from VN and doing that isn't anti-American or anti-government.'

It's holding the politicians accountable for their flawed leadership.

2. Personally, I wasn't offended by him tonight.
He wasn't as aggressive against the swift boaters, but he certainly was NOT bashing Kerry or Dems.

Maybe I missed something?

3. I thought Chris was his usual tonight
Not much different than he usually is except for the part about two sides to Kerry. Didn't like how he did that bit.

Cyn:)

7. Right, I didn't anticipate that at all
Matthews was totally cynical during the "trying to have it both ways" theme regarding Kerry's Vietnam record and experience. Seems like plenty of frothing DUers either tuned out at that point or made up their minds early, like scoring the first minute of a boxing match and ignoring the final two.

and Dick wasn't having any of that.

4. Folks Here Want Him To Be Franken Or Carville...
He's half as partisan but twice as cutting...

People here can watch t v for the rest of their lives and they will never see anybody destroyed the way Matthews destroyed Thurlow and Malkin....

5. Hey if we can make to 75% even handed, that is great strides from
what we have been seeing. Yes, it was OH SO GREAT, to see him destroy menacing michelle, but what I want to see is balanced reporting. That means that I have to sit through some things that I find ludicrous. However, if our side is also being told, unlike what has happened for the last couple of week, then I think we have to view this as progress.

6. Tweety was frustrated with the Democrats for not
nominating Governor Dean. He would be way out in front of it if Dean were the candidate.

8. Well , he did cut off the Nixon creep, Buchanan
on several occasions tonight when he tried to inject his usual derogatory comments about Kerry. He only got in a fraction of what he tried to. Isn't it amazing that Kerry is still fighting people from the Nixon gang, even though they were thoroughly discredited over 30 years ago? Kerry was right then and he is right now. Some of the Dem spokesmen need to point this out. Buchanan is one of the few who escaped going to jail.

12. tweety has doesn't like his show being misquoted
that's what this has been all about.

But I enjoy Dick Cavett on. He had a funny line apologizing to Pat about calling Pat something (two-faced thug, something like that), then saying he meant Bob Novak.

14. i sent chris a note of appreciation tonight. its not going to be 100%
kerry all the time and i know we have to live with that.

i just want a modicum of truth. as others have said, he pretty much played it down the middle and gave both sides the chance to speak.

while not perfect by any means, it was at least reasonable.

and i for one am going to reinforce this with chris by sending him an email. i just want some sanity from the news shows. were getting too close to the election and he needs our support.

better down the middle than bipolar.
the wide swing is too tough for me to handle
