In October, George W. Bush will officially announce a brand-new plan that he calls the "New Freedom Initiative." It will require every United States citizen to be tested for mental disorders, and presumably, be categorized according to their alleged "mental fitness." Those who are diagnosed by Bush's doctors as being mentally unfit will be administered medication by the government. The first people to be "tested" will be students and teachers in the public school system.
http://www.interventionmag.com/cms/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=830I don't know about this rest of you, but this plan scares the hell out of me. Nevermind the creepy Orwellian title, "New Freedom Initiative," the plan itself sounds like something straight out of
1984 or a
Brave New World: the government administers mental tests to every citizen, decides who is and isn't mentally fit, and dopes everyone up who doesn't meet their standards. Schools become places of brainwashing and indoctrinationn where children become mere slaves to the government.
Unfortunately, the "New Freedom Initiative" is probably only a glimpse of what lies ahead if Bush is elected to a second term. By 2009, the country will be nothing but a strange Orwellian land where the government controls not only its citizens' lives, but their thoughts as well.
Fortunately, this bizarre plan for a "Brave New World" gives John Kerry the perfect opportunity to lash out at Bush. I don't think any thinking American - even Republicans - will support this unbelievable violation of privacy, government intrusion into personal lives and clear-cut attempt at mass mind control. If Kerry plays his cards right, he can make an issue out of it in October, right before the election.
