McCain Gaffes, Volunteering Wife For Topless Contest

August 05, 2008 5:31 PM

ABC News' Gregory Wallace and Sara Just Report:
Sen. John McCain, R-Az., perhaps unknowingly, volunteered his wife for a beauty pageant on Monday that often features contestants topless -- and, occasionally, without any decency -- at the Sturgis, South Dakota, motorcycle rally.

"I was looking at the Sturgis schedule, and noticed that you had a beauty pageant, so I encouraged Cindy to compete," McCain told an audience at the rally. "I told her with a little luck, she could be the only woman to serve as both the First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip."

The audience, clearly better versed in the details of the pageant, cheered and whistled their approval.

21. Remember her comment about
being proud of her country, "I don't know about you, but I AM VERY proud of MY country."

I don't feel a bit sorry for her. In fact it's exactly what she deserves for putting up with a man who treats her like shit and calls her hideous names in public. They crashed a biker party. What the hell did they expect?!

8. I won't hold my breathe. Smears to the WH had a clip of McClown bashing Obama
at the same rally and making some random/creepy revving motion with his arm while he grunted awkwardly. It was completely unappealing.

The man certainly does have some mighty interesting "moves". Interesting, in a sort of scientific eperimentation way.

11. EXACTLY. Just like "I'm John McCain, and I approved this message,"
you gotta wonder "Who's in charge here?"

You either lead or you are being led. I think John "leader" McCain is being led--very badly.

Cindy McCain as Miss Buffalo Chip?
By Kate Phillips

Senator John McCain dipped in and out yesterday at the big bikers’ rally in Sturgis, S.D., to the roar of motorcycles and the admiration of veterans in attendance.
We’re pretty sure then that when he offered up his wife Cindy, who has graced Vogue this year and other magazines as one of the country’s most beautiful women, to compete in the rally’s Miss Buffalo Chip contest, that well, he didn’t entirely get — as an ESPN writer suggests — that the contestants sometimes wind up topless, walk about in thongs (Shocking!) or are otherwise scantily clothed. (Oh! Debauchery!)
Or maybe he did and was just having a little fun.
“I told her with a little luck that she could be the only woman to serve as First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip,” Mr. McCain told the crowd, as his wife waved to them. (To laughter from the audience, we might add.)
Here’s the YouTube clip where you see the senator and Mrs. McCain (who by the way is laughing), on stage, while he jokes about his spouse’s eligibility:
For Mr. and Mrs. McCain, it was just one campaign stop — and a very short one — during a long long year or more. We’re inclined to go along with Senator McCain’s joshing, and have the sense that this was all in good fun. But the McCain clip is another example of how a throw-away line at a campaign pit-stop can live on and on online.

(Plus a juicy list of all the blogs that are displaying the video.)

There She Is...Miss Buffalo Chip
John McCain dropped by the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally last night, with his wife and daughter in tow. On stage at the famous Buffalo Chip campground, McCain joked about encouraging his wife to enter the upcoming beauty contest (which features biker, lingerie, and bikini competitions). If both he and she were successful, he said, Cindy McCain could be the first woman to hold the titles of both First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip.

in between the outright racist ones are the ones that profess their pride that McCain is one of them for pimping his wife.

Taking back the microphone, McCain joked that he wanted her to enter the beauty contest held at the site, the Buffalo Chip campground on the edge of town.

"I told her with a little luck, she could be the only woman ever to serve as both the first lady and Miss Buffalo Chip," McCain quipped.
