CBSNEWS.COM "Kerry Coverage: Conservative Bias?"
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/08/23/opinion/main637900.shtml

"George W. Bush spent those same years in a state of dissolution at Yale, and would go on, as we know, to plot how to get out of going to Southeast Asia. On that subject, here's a choice quote. "I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment," Bush told the Dallas Morning News in 1990. "Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

Let's parse that quotation phrase for phrase. We do not, of course, know the full context of the conversation he was having with the reporter, and we don't know exactly what question Bush was asked. But his words begin from the presumption that actually going to Vietnam was absolutely not an option. The quote is entirely about how to avoid going. He wasn't prepared to damage his hearing intentionally for the sake of securing a deferment (he probably meant a 4-F classification and confused the two). And he wasn't willing to go to Canada. So he took the third option, the Air National Guard. And note how the choice was about bettering himself, not about thinking of a way to best render service that this child of privilege might -- had he been possessed of the moral fiber and sense of duty of, say, John Kerry -- have considered his obligation, especially considering that, on paper at least, he supported the war."

1. Ha, exactly! There's more to his words than meets the eye at first.
Like many children of priviledge, he has a prevailing attitude that "It's all about ME!"

3. Boy do I agree with this.
Bush is a COWARD. and Cheney is a COWARD. They are frightened, yellow, scared, selfish, assholes who were just so happy to send someone to die in their place. Glad someone finally thought to point this out.

4. Dobbs, in a WP online chat, admitted he let his article be influenced...
by Kerry's not talking to him about his service record. Has Bush granted Dobbs a personal interview about HIS service record??? The article, the importance given it on the WP frontpage, and Mr. Dobbs's admitted bias amount to an outrage!

6. Yes, Dobbs was on C-Span this a.m. insinuating that Doug Brinkley
refuses to allow him to review Kerry's "notes" and what Dobbs calls a diary that might be in question, because Brinkley has sole access by Kerry's permission to private papers.

He was insinuating that there just "might" be a conflict in what Brinkley wrote in his bio of Kerry.

I thought as I watched him that Dobbs was trying to move the story further for his own agenda. I've given up on WaPo for any decent reporting of anything having to do with this election. Their constant support for the Bush regime shows them to be a partisan rag. They do it with more sophistication than the Washington Times, their rival, but they accomplish the same in a more incideous way.

11. Thank Bob Woodward for the Washington Post doing Bush's bidding.
He is the BIGGEST Bush whore of them all and sets the agenda. It is his influence on Downie that makes Downie one of the biggest dumbasses in the news business today.
