Pay travel expenses YOURSELF...coz he's not BADLY WOUNDED ENOUGH.
I help with the Iraq Coalition Casualty site, where we track soldiers killed & wounded in Iraq. Pat, one of the two founders of the site, received this email today;
To Whom This May Concern,
I am writing this to seek help in organizing a support group and raising awareness for military families who have injured soldiers returning to the States. I am one of those military wives who needed help with no one to turn to.
My husband was placed on active duty to help with OIF in Baghdad. When he left we knew this wasn't going to be easy, but we had to do our part in helping our country.
He was injured on June 30, 2004 by a mortar attack and was sent back to the States where I was suppose to meet up with him. I was told by the military that all my food, lodging, and transportation would be reimbursed to me or paid for up front.
I thought things were going well until two days before I was suppose to leave, I got another call from the Family Readiness Group, who helped me locate and get to him, telling me that my husband wasn't injured badly enough and that I was on my own to get to him. The military wasn't going to help.
Should we honestly have to decide whether to put food on the table for our children or go see our injured solider, whom we haven't seen in months? I think not! Each of our soldiers give part of their lives to fight for our country without a second thought to anything including their family they leave behind. The family sits and awaits for their soldier's return. When your soldier is hurt, the only thing you think about is how do I get to him/her, is he/she ok, how serious is the injury? You don't stop until you are reunited with that person. That soldier's family shouldn't have to worry about where the money is coming from to get to the person they love. It should come automatically, rewarded you might say in honor of that soldier fighting for this dear country, and to the family that idly stands by and waits.
There are three categories of seriousness to injuries: ill, seriously ill, and critically ill. I was told that they weren't expecting this many injured soldiers and don't have the funds necessary to help every family, so they decided to only help the ones more seriously injured. Now tell me, is the soldier who is only slightly wounded any different than the one more seriously wounded? The answer is NO! Both soldiers equally gave in order to protect our country and both should be given the same rewards and treatments! Regardless of units, job title, or injury.
Please help me gather support to let our government know that this is wrong and not the way our soldiers and their families deserve to be treated. This cannot be tolerated! Without our men and women in the Armed Forces we wouldn't be free, we wouldn't be Americans!

And wounded troops have to pay their own hospital meals (yes bush did pass a temporary ban on that, but that ended last year and to date it's not be put back into effect, AFAIK)
With "support" like the bush Administration, who needs FOREIGN enemies???
