Something we can actually do????
The more I think about it, the more I think some of the political talking heads are right: This Swift Boat Controversy is good for the bu$h campaign, so they aim to keep it in front of the public. As long as it is in the limelight, the less Kerry can concentrate on the Issues. It is on the Issues that Kerry is strong.

Why don't we call and email all of the local and national media, telling them "Enough"...we want to hear about the issues! We are tired of the controversy! We are quick to fire off emails and phone calls when a media outlet does something we don't like, why don't we try to quash this controversy so Kerry can get back to the message that will make him President?

If you like this idea, please keep it kicked.

1. But then we are showing interest
At first read I like it. Second read, problem. If I was to contact my local media stating that I don't like all the coverage then in a perverse way I have admitted to them that I am reading and or listening to it, hence I am "their" if their than they will continue to run with it. Sort of a conundrum, the more response they get (good or bad) to what they are doing, the more they know they have an audience, the more audience the more they do it.

4. Respectfully disagree
If enough people contact the media about being tired of the Swift Boat thing, that becomes a story in itself. Can't you hear it? "People losing interest in Swift Boat controversy, want to hear about issues." We know some of the media outlets pay attention to our emails, our phone calls. We need to be heard talking on C-Span, our emails need to be read out on the talk shows. Then undecideds out there will think, "yeah, I'm tired of this shit too, let me hear about something that will affect me." Some of Kerry's talking heads are trying to do this very thing on the talk shows, we should back them up with emails and phone calls.

2. Who owns the media? Viacom. Who owns Viacom?
General electric, the most neocon corporation in America.

They won't listen.

3. I like the idea of having
an informally organized letter-writing campaign. However, I do not think our goal should be to end the Vietnam discussion. I think the swift boat ads are going to back-fire, and result in a self-inflicted republican wound.

I think that it is great to have letters to the editors of newspapers and magazines that say the administration refuses to discuss current events. We have numerous options. Keep in mind that the public is thirsty: the republicans are putting a dirty glass of water in front of them .... if we put a clean glass of water next to it, the public will make the right choice.

Later today, a few people are going to announce a plan to have interested DUers write letters and e-mails to specific newspapers and journals. If we could get a group of people here willing to participate in this between now and the election, we will be providing a valuable service to the democratic party.
