Clinton to forfeit $13 mil loan, unless…
Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, who once deducted $6 on their taxes for donating three pairs of his underwear, plan to take a $13-million hit to their personal bank account by forfeiting loans she made to her failed presidential campaign.

The campaign will allow to expire a mid-September deadline for paying them back, sources close to the campaign told Politico, at which point they will automatically be recategorized as contributions, confirming a decision by Clinton to forego repayment that many had expected her to make.

However, Clinton could get some post-deadline wiggle room to repay herself — and possibly with less of a public backlash — if Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) prevails in a little-noticed challenge to a rule requiring candidates to pay back loans of more than $250,000 within 20 days of the election.

For the Clinton campaign, the 20-day loan-repayment clock will start ticking when her vanquisher Barack Obama officially ends the Democratic primary by accepting the party’s presidential nomination Aug. 28 at Invesco Field in Denver.

Clinton’s campaign declined to comment for this story.

I wonder how much of this lack of support towards Obama is really about the $13,000,000.00 the Clintons are in the hole for a failed campaign?

I guess they'll need to write off a few million pairs of underwear on their next tax return perhaps.

1. Dubai royals paid Bill 2- million for helping them out - Clintons won't be hurting financially, but
Americans who have been watching Dubai and Saudi royals lead our Republican and Dem powerbrokers around by the nose for decades will continue to lose our country to their interests.

There is no lack of support towards Obama.

She is owning her debt. Why the snarkiness?

Her debt would be retired. Where are they? Why aren't they donating?

6. Meanwhile, some people cant afford food.
I guess they'll just have to eek by on the 90 or so million they have left.

Actually.... how many speeches has Bill given since the primary ended? I'd guess they're pretty close to having made the money back already.

Rich people being only slightly less rich is the least of my worries.

24. I believe it has to be unused
Alot of people write off the clothes they donate.

It's not tacky or illegal. It helps others and has a tax benefit.

...she throws the kitchen sink at him with one of the dirtiest, nastiest primary campaigns ever...stays well past her 'sell by' date, ignores the inevitable coming loss and racks up huge mountains of debt whilst helping (inadvertently or not) to write at least one of Crash McCain's ads and then she gets huffy because the winner won't cover her losses? File that under WTF??

I would like to see where else in the real world Mrs Clinton thinks that works...because the next time I'm in a poker tournament and I go all in, if I lose I will expect the winner to give me my money back...

Time to get real Hill....you lost, you get to pay for it..

36. that so reminds me of old ladies and 'women's perogatives'
where women have a right to do things like being late for a wedding, etc., but hell hath fury if a man does that and lets the bride wait. Keeping a man waiting on a date, etc. PICKING UP THE TAB!

A lot of Hillary's campaigning reminded me of these old ways methods -
the whaaaaaa, I can slug You, but dont' you dare hit me cuz I'm a girl! Her supporters called her 'my girl' with no repercussions but if she had been called that by the Walmart board men or by the Obama campaign, she would have done her sucking chestwound mimic of pain and hurt.

she used her personal tradegy to use for sympathy - can you Imagine if this were a male nominee and he made jokes about his wife, that he still lives with, cheating on him in the past? wtf?

lots of these kinds of thing throughout her campaign - but then some claim she lost because of sexism! no doubt there had to be some involved in the primaries as there is some involved in every facet of life - but she blatantly 'used' her sex to get certain messages across. It was kind of like a dare - hey, I can do this shit and get away with it, but don't you dare, I'll call you on it.

she's no feminist. she's an opportunist

35. I'll stop when she, her husband, and their supporters stop threatening and bashing
the *RIGHTFUL* nominee. When all the talk about him paying off her debt and her being the VP, yadda, yadda, has ceased...THEN I'll stop. But the more she and her supporters continue on with their veiled threats and pettiness, we can never get to unity. You need to tell HER and her husband and their supporters to "stop this shit!"

32. Nope. That argument is based soley on the argument that the PD winner had to be the nominee
And the rules contradict that argument. Hillary could have won the nomination, and historically, races a lot less close went all the way to the convention. Besides, without SDs we would have totally different rules for electing PDs.

16. I plan to donate...
after the Convention. And hope that some others will do the same. Now isn't the time, but after the Convention, I'm willing to give "a few dollars" to Hillary. I especially hope that her supporters, will do the same. She ran a race that *I* look at as a good thing, because it ensured that every single state in America participated. It truly rev'ed up our party, and if the healing can occur in Denver, then I think we can crush the opposition.

For the positive impact of her tenacity that I think will benefit the party in November, I'm willing to give her a few dollars.

However, I also hope that more of her supporters will donate as well. $1 from each of them would end this debt immediately. I don't quite understand why it hasn't happened yet.

19. "18 Million" - where are they?
That seems to be a popular recurring theme when HRC is discussed - courtesy of HRC herself - so why isn't that the answer to her debt problems?

It would only take a fraction of that magical number contributing $1 or $2 each to wipe this out. Just sayin'.

Assuming she and Bill do all they can for the ticket, she'll be able to retire the remaining balance of the debt (above the loans and the Penn paybable) in the years to come.
