The COWARD from CRAWFORD
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 01:16 PM by Stephanie

Too scared to go to Vietnam, too scared to stay in DC in summer 2001, too scared to return to DC on 9/11, too scared to stay in NYC even one night during the convention next week, too scared to even walk out on the stage at his own convention without a bulletproof cage around him.

The Cowardly Cowboy, the Texas Wimp, President Pussy.

Sept. 18, 1973 Arranges to leave the Guard six months early to attend Harvard Business School. A deal for early release was not unusual at the time.

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

One such CIA briefing, in July 2001, was particularly chilling and prophetic. It predicted that Osama bin Laden was about to launch a terrorist strike “in the coming weeks,” the congressional investigators found. The intelligence briefing went on to say: “The attack will be spectacular and designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests. Attack preparations have been made. Attack will occur with little or no warning.”

The White House had announced that Bush would stay at his 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford from Aug. 4 through Labor Day on Sept. 3, a 31-day stretch that would have broken a modern record for a presidential vacation, held by Richard M. Nixon for a 30-day trip to San Clemente, Calif., in 1969. News reports played up the record, and a Gallup Poll found that 55 percent of respondents thought Bush's vacation was too long.

Q.We have pictures of your travel pool on Air Force One looking in horror at this little flat screen, which was back in the plane, seeing the second tower collapse.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q: I wondered what was going on at about that time in the front of the plane?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, thanks for asking. First of all, I learned about the attack -- the second attack; I knew about the first attack when I walked into a schoolroom. I thought it was an accident. And I'm listening to an education briefing, and Andy Card, my Chief of Staff, whispered in my ear, he said, "America's under attack. There's been a second plane crash; America is under attack."

I made up my mind right then and there that if somebody was attacking us, we would respond with the full might of America.

Q: But there was little you could do at that moment, in that plane.

THE PRESIDENT: At that moment, no, there wasn't. You're right. I mean, I was trying to get out of harm's way. We were concerned about threats on the President. We were worried about future attacks, and there's a lot of belief that Flight 93 was headed to the White House.

But now it turns out that Mr. Bush may not spend a single night in the city that helped transform his presidency. At this point, the unofficial plan is for him to arrive in Manhattan sometime on Thursday, Sept. 2, the final day of the four-day convention, deliver his acceptance speech that night, then leave immediately for Pennsylvania.

Aug. 20--When president Bush accepts the Republican nomination in two weeks, he will enter Madison Square Garden on a specially made blast- and bullet-proof stage, the Daily News has learned.

The platform is being constructed off-site from the Garden, sources said.

"It's a whole different" stage from the one that will be used during the other hours of the Republican National Convention, which runs from Aug. 30 through Sept. 2, the night Bush arrives, said one source.

8. Not that simple Steph...
Shrub family has lots of connections in Houston. Remember the Texas Rangers, Enron, Bob Perry, and probably thousands of other scams that are going on there.....Plus the folks at Crawford really adore the man and think he is on a mission from god...

13. Are you sure? Didn't Crawford just screen F9/11?
Have they been polled since then? Maybe they're ready to kick his butt out. Maybe he should be looking at retirement communities overseas.

33. I think its rather doubtful.....
There are few hard core southerners that will never change. I grew up in an area where there is a church literally on every corner. These churchs are constantly being remodelded and news mega churches are being built in addition. They spend a portion of their earned income called tiding on the church. The have hard core values in that they are against gays, sex education, teaching of evolution, separation of church and state, {your crazy ideas here}. I grew up near PTL (Praise the Lord) back in their hey day, there was soo much constrution and money pouring into the place that is was unimaginable. Now the power brokers are Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell who in my opinion are way more dangerous.

There are people who will vote based on their wallets and this does spell trouble for Shrub. But overall I am not very optimistic that the hard core southern values will change anytime soon.

28. Shrub as a hamster
running through his giant Habitrail. LOL! I wonder if it will include a wheel he can run on, and a bottle with a spout that dispenses Jack Daniels? But seriously.. how bizarre. Does Chimpy have so little confidence in the convention's security that he figures he has to be enclosed in a boy-in-the-bubble plexiglas box for his own safety? Has he become so paranoid that he's afraid some other Republican might take a pot-shot at him? Or is he just a freaking coward? Bet he has a food-taster like Louis XIV, too.

Imagine! His own convention, everyone inside searched and searched again, bomb-sniffing dogs, subways shut down, the whole neighborhood blocked off, every cop in the Northeast surrounding the building, nobody allowed inside who isn't a Bush-worshipping wingnut, and the guy is going to appear in a plexiglass cage??? Like the Pope-mobile, maybe?

The most Ridiculous pResident EVER.

44. More great Bush quotes from that NY Daily News article:
Bush on Bush

"I'm saying to myself, 'What do I want to do?' I think I don't want to be an infantry guy as a private in Vietnam. What I do decide to want to do is learn to fly."

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, 1989

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes."

Dallas Morning News, Feb. 25, 1990

"I don't want to play like I was somebody out there marching when I wasn't. It was either Canada or the service. ... Somebody said the Guard was looking for pilots. All I know is, there weren't that many people trying to be pilots."

Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nov. 29, 1998
