Can't say more right now, but something is on the edge of coming out regarding the SBV guys. It isn't out yet because a couple of details are being pounded out. Caveat: If one of the details doesn't work out, the story won't come.

Keep an eye on this thread. I will let you know one way or the other as soon as I can.

122. No, it won't...
It might put the Bush campaign in violation of federal law, but I think most people assume that the SBLFB and the Bush campaign are working hand-in-glove anyway, and really don't care. For them, the issue is whether or not the charges against Kerry are true, not whether their exposure is coming from the Bush campaign or not.

12. In a better world, none of the damn SBV shit woulda been taken seriously..
I just can't believe that no news programs are saying that none of these jim-jims except Thurow (who has a major axe to grind) even SERVED with Kerry. If they'd just take a cursory glance at these assclowns' records, they'd know there was no story.

It's sad that we have to now WAIT FOR A (possible) BOMBSHELL from Kerry himself to deflect the damage from this bullshit story that had no truth to it in the first place.,...

When the fuck is this nightmare going to be over?!

Watergate would get blamed on the Dems today if it happened: if they hadn't been hiding the info, Segretti, Colson, etal. wouldna had to break in the office in the first place, dammit! Stupid liberals......

50. Amen to that
Bushco has had so many impeachable offenses that I have lost count.
MOST of which are MUCH worse than a mere burglarizing of the opposition. That's a simple Rovian misdemeaner.

To be fair to Nixon, he did much worse than Wgate himself...

124. People almost didn't find out about Watergate, either...
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 07:12 PM by JDWalley
Remember, the break-in happened in June 1972, and the story didn't break until March 1973, four months after Nixon had been re-elected in a landslide.

Up until that point, the general consensus had been that it was a "third-rate burglary" by a handful of low-level "loose cannons" in the Nixon campaign, who apparently got drunk one night and spontaneously decided to "prove that the Democrats were in league with the commies."

In fact, the story only came to light because one of the convicted burglars broke under pressure and sent a secret letter to the judge in the case, telling all, and forcing the re-opening of the whole matter. If said burglar hadn't "broken" at the last moment, Watergate would have been nothing more than a footnote in the "silly section" of American history, and we would all be debating the accomplishments of Nixon's presidency in the four years of his second term (probably followed by Reagan or John Connally in 1976, since V.P. Agnew was too creepy to be electable).

That's the only thing I can guess would be big enough. Only the most zombie-like RWers can't see how blatantly the Smear Boaters are lying, so I doubt it would be any new obvious contradictions of their lies (BTW thanks to the DUer who put out this link: http://swiftvets.eriposte.com/).

133. Bob Perry and The Council for National Policy
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 08:43 PM by starroute
The Council for National Policy: Selected Member Biographies
http://www.seekgod.ca/cnp.pe-q.htm#perry

"Robert J. Perry - CNP Board of Governors 1982, Vice President Executive Committee,1984-85, member 1988; President of Perry-Houston Interests, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors of the Houston, Texas Chamber of Commerce; executive board Boy Scouts of America; former Citizen member, state banking board of Texas; member the Heritage Club."

The Council for National Policy: What It Is
http://www.seekgod.ca/cnp.htm

"Many Evangelical, Pentecostal, Charismatic, Catholic, Mormon and other ecumenically-minded leaders are members of the Council for National Policy, the 500+ member organization which plans the strategy of the Religious Right in the United States.

"The CNP, according to their 1996 Telephone Directory, was founded in 1981. While those involved are from the United States, their organizations and influence cover the globe, both religiously and politically. Members include corporate executives, television evangelists, legislators, former military or high ranking government officers, leaders of 'think tanks' dedicated to molding society and those who many view as Christian leadership. Members in many cases are owners or leaders from industry such as lumber, oil, mining, commodities, real estate, the media, including owners of radio, television and print, with all aspects of life covered. Many are involved in education, determining to influence society's direction by direct input with children and youth.

<snip>

"... the CNP members are overtly "Christian" which is used as a cover to deceive the gullible. They have the 'form of godliness' and are somewhat 'ministers of righteousness', but deny the true power thereof by a carefully contrived doctrine which assiduously avoids the Scriptures which would expose their works that they are evil. Through their propaganda, they provoke visceral reactions from Christians to fight, become angry, to get involved in the political arena, to join and support their organizations through many monetary contributions which makes 'merchandise of the saints.' "

Wow! This is apparently a fervently Christian site which has decided that the CNP are agents of Satan, or at least dupes of Satan. Heavy stuff!! ;-)

"The 1982-1983 officers of the Council for National Policy (CNP) were: Thomas F. Ellis, pres; Nelson Bunker Hunt, vice pres, Bob J. Perry sec-tres; Rep. Louis (Woody) Jenkins, exec dir; and Dr. Tim LaHaye, immediate past pres. ... Pat Robertson has been president ... right-wing stalwarts Joseph Coors, Paul Weyrich, and Howard Phillips had served on the executive committee. ... According to one source, the CNP was formed in 1981 by Texas millionaires Nelson Bunker Hunt, Herbert Hunt, and T. Cullen Davis.(5) A second source reports that it was formed by Richard Viguerie to rival the Council on Foreign Relations.(8,26) The council is composed of politically powerful, wealthy individuals. It intentionally maintains a very low profile.(3,5) One of the conditions of membership is not to reveal the names of other members or the substance of the group's meetings.(9) The CNP bills itself as being the Council on Foreign Policy for the Right.(9) But, its importance does not lie in producing and promoting an ultra-conservative foreign policy agenda, many of its affiliates already do that. It is considered by its members as a network that encompasses the entire spectrum of right-wing politics.(3) It provides a 'safe' place for representatives of a wide range of ultra- conservative, anticommunist, pro-military organizations--including the executive branch of the White House--to discuss and promote their programs.(3)"

...would be if another Swift Boat veteran (not part of the SBLFB) came forward to testify that the Bush campaign had attempted to recruit/coerce/bribe him to join the group, and even offered him scripted "testimony" for the ads!

63. A Defector would be AWESOME.
You know, just a little someone who sat in on the meetings and has proof that KKKKKarl was involved.

We have already had testimony that some of the Vets that were originally contacted had their words twisted, and when they protested, they were told to just sign anyway, it would be "fixed" later.

86. The Carnival Media
The carnival media is not covering the election or the candidates, just selling tickets to the peepshow attractions. Hurry, hurry, step right up and see the two-headed elephant of Rangoon! Just one thin dime, a tenth of a buck, two buffalos, ten little Lincolns and the show can be yours.

Could you imagine? I've been pissy for the last few weeks thinking Kerry wasn't hitting back hard enough. I would LOVE to find out that he was sitting on evidence of a WH and SBV collaboration all this time and just waiting for the perfect time to unleash hell.

98. I wish it would be...
McCain announces that Bush had the opportunity to denounce the ad and failed to do it, so McCain will no longer be helping the Bush campaign

OR

Kerry knew this was coming so he sent one of his Swiftboat buddies to penetrate the organization by pretending to be mad at Kerry so he could accumulate incriminating evidence about the group's ties to the WH.

That would be sweet!

I can dream...

129. My Dead Dog's Revenge
Edited on Tue Aug-24-04 07:50 PM by snyder
When I was a kid I trained my dog to balance crackers on his nose and not eat them until he got permission. Then I'd put pieces of cheese on his nose and he'd have to wait. Then pieces of salami. Then I trained him to hold a cracker in his mouth without eating it. Then cheese, then sausage. He would sit there with the stuff in his mouth, looking at me and drooling on the floor.

God was I cruel. Will, were you a brown standard poodle in a previous life? :)
