7. Bwahhahaha quote
My Friends…
Brothers, we are on the verge of a great American tragedy. Empty suit Barack Obama has brainwashed the good liberals in this country! He MUST BE STOPPED! Over the past 8 years, Republicans have CUT TAXES, defended LIFE, kept MARRIAGE SACRED and fought for FREEDOM around the world. John McCain will continue to fight for our values. DON’T BE FOOLED by Obama’s smooth talk! He will RAISE YOUR TAXES, allow GAYS to marry, TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY and he won’t SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! We cannot stand by as this TAX AND SPEND LIBERAL lays waste to America!

----------------

The rhetoric is breathtakingly pat and pointless :eyes:

39. I get so tired of hearing this same damn speech every year...
I guess they do seminars and teach them the same old talking points. These same assholes go running back to the black community everytime they think someone is being racist against them but when there really is racism they are the first ones to show up saying its not.

19. I guess you could call me racist as well
After that crap the repigs pulled 2000 Florida I had a hard holding my tongue when I encounter black Republicans. After Katrina I started calling all the black Repigs I encountered on their bullshit. Even before all that I had a hard time understanding them. I know growing up the name Regan was a dirty word in my household. My grandmother told me if I went out into the world and came home thinking I was a Republican to not come through her door without a damn good explanation. As a black woman I never felt the need to venture to the dark side. I was always told that when America has a cold black America has the flu and the virus is usually caused by electing repigs.

28. Here in Maryland...
When Michael Steele (R) ran against Ben Cardin (D), there were a lot of African-Americans who considered "the dark side". Steele would have been a black Senator. And we haven't seen 2 black senators in Congress since Reconstruction - if ever.

I think the 2 biggest reasons why he lost are because he continued to stand up for Bush and the Maryland Democrats were trying to ensure that we (Marylanders) weren't the ones to keep the Senate from "flipping". Kweisi Mfume, one of the primary contenders, publicly championed Ben Cardin and we got recorded calls from Mfume, urging us to support Cardin. I think that's how concerned the party was that black Democrats would defect.

46. You know that is the rub
I know several black republicans that have come to the light because of Obama. I have asked them time and time again if it is because he is black and most of them will say they are just tired of Bush politics. I do have a suspicion that some are excited to see Obama on the stage because he is black. That the thing with identity politics. I know some of the black Republicans I talk to stay towards the dark side because they identify as Christians and they were told by their pastors that Republicans are the way to go if you are a Christian. I could go into an entire rant on the black community, crooked pastors, religion and politics but that would take this thread off topic, LOL.

23. Actually, it's a better fit than you think.
The majority of us (African-Americans) are pro-life. The majority of us are against gay marriage. The majority of us have very strong Christian roots.

If we had the guts, we would have defected a long time ago. I think we stay because we don't actually feel at home in either party, but our "Democrat" roots are now about 40 years old, so we're clinging to them.

Once we see a critical mass of black Republican elected officials who don't come off as party puppets, there will probably be an exodus of African-Americans from the Democratic party.

Obama's election to the presidency will probably pin us to the Democratic party for another 8+ years. But I find myself wondering what would have happened in Clinton had won the nomination. And it's not a pretty thought.

Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 06:33 PM by Bucky
Freedom includes the freedom to believe in stupid things. I don't think you're racist or sexist, but I would encourage you to think of people as individuals rather than as demographic representations of a larger race or gender group. Saying it's hard to think of a black person as a Republican borders on denying that blacks have an equal capacity for exercising free will.

33. A rather ignorant analogy
When Republicans start blaming all society's problems on African Americans and rounding them up into boxcars, you'll have a point. As it stands, Republicans blame all problems on Bill Clinton's penis, and I don't think that it would even fit in a boxcar.

32. I also think you're blind to the Republican party appeal.
The GOP touts itself as the one with "strong Christian values". And strong Christian values include men as head of household, and the wife as the cherished second. Any man or woman who buys into that is probably going to be Republican. And many do.

There are many, many women, black and white, who would like a strong, caring husband, and would be willing to play second fiddle to a "good man". That's definitely not a Democratic theme song.

14. A lot of Blacks see Obama as a pimp----a "slick brother"
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 05:10 PM by vaberella
I think that's the problem a lot of people don't know or don't get. I'm from Harlem and I worked in the projects. It's not all Black people who are behind Obama and I always find the demos a bit skewed. Blacks were far more devoted and behind HRC than anyone else, and only for Clinton. A lot of the people around my way were not looking for Obama as the vote, HRC was their vote. It was actually the white people in my neighborhood who were Pro-Obama.

The Blacks saw him as slick, and definitely no Clinton---which defers their support to HRC because of her husband. And the Latino's in my neighborhood were on two ends, the racists who would never vote for a Black person and don't want to hear what he has to say but are devout Dems and the people who only like HRC because again, her husband but don't really care about her.

So seeing people go McCain because they don't like Obama, no matter the race and in paticular Black of any gender, I'm not surprised. On the other end, I know a lot of Black Caribbean Americans are Repubs. And I've met a handful of Black American Repubs men and women, so I'm not totally surprised. I just always have one question...why? I can understand not being Dem, but why go Repub out of all of them.

43. Ignored, overlooked, marginalized.
I'm Haitian and I had a barber that put up a picture of Trujillo ( the Dominican Republic president that massacred millions upon millions of Haitians and ultimately created the racist mentality not only against Blacks (loosely speaking) but mainly against Haitians). That stuff is deep and rarely looked at. This is not to say that we aren't lumped together and there isn't animosity on both sides but in my area Latino-Black relation is a problem and reflected in the votes for this election, even though I believe minutely.

41. That's why I also said, I believe those stats to be skewed. Plus, I was mainly looking at NYC.
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 07:22 PM by vaberella
I'm not about to sit and believe the stats that are always being prophecied out. Especially since they come by MSM who has been lumping all the Black voters as one big mass. While around my way that was far from the case and I turned into a political professor to inform people about who Obama was and what he was about.

Of course a lot of what I say was predominantly in relation to the primaries but they still stand now. I won't deny that some Black voters really seem to see Obama as change, others are voting because he's the Dem nominee and they'll never stray from Dem, and you have some who do see him as a Messiah. However, there is a good amount of Blacks that don't like him.

Just last week, one guy in my neighborhood was shouting out how much of a pimp Obama was and Black people are being conned by him...this is Harlem and another older lady was trying to placate him while both made no qualms about denying they were HRC supporters. This guy was probably in his late 20s mid thirties the latest.

Look at the website again. It's written by one man, working by himself and apparently connected with only himself. Sitting at his computer. Alone. In a darkened room. A half empty glass of scotch wobbling in his hand. And a paranoid twitching in his eyes.

Wait, maybe I'm describing myself.
