Mother of Concern Threads - Conventional Wisdom - This Should Be Obama's Worse Week In The Polls!
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 12:35 PM by Median Democrat
Panic!!!

:sarcasm:

So, in order to consolidate all possible lines of concern troll attack :sarcasm: let us create the mother of all concern trolls based on the "conventional wisdom" we have heard on GD-P.

After months of campaigning like a machine, Obama has taken 8 super long days off (an eternity in politics!), though he continues to get some residual media attention. In other words, since the campaign began, this is the longest period of time when Obama has not been criss-crossing the country doing events, town halls, and rallies, and getting criticized for appearing too presidential, but not experienced enough.

1. Worse, we have the Georgia crisis, with John McCain doing his knee jerk reactions, and the press sucking it up without critically examining whether McCain's proposals to isolate Russia would have made things worse or sparked a larger war.

2. Worser, we have the John Edwards affair with the MSM religiously using it to tarnish Obama (their both Democrats) and Bill and Hillary Clinton (10 year old affair) while also ignoring and shooting down any references to John McCain's own history of affairs. :wtf:

3. Worser-er, we have the Atlantic's publication of Hillary Clinton campaign memos on how to trash Obama coupled with Mark Penn bragging in an essay that negative campaigns work, thus suggesting that Hillary messed up by not following his advice to slime Obama even more and firing Penn. (Et Tu' Brute, er Penn).

4. Worser-er-er, we have Cokie Roberts and other GOP media types trying characterize Obama's Hawaii vacation as elite, exotic and foreign, while also religiously aviding mention of the fact that John McCain was born Panama, and last time I checked, Panama is not admitted to the Union. Likewise, the MSM ignores McCain's privileged education (the Admiral's wittle boy) while ignoring that Obama attended his schools on scholarship. :silly:

5. Worser-er-er-er, McCain released another negative campaign (surprise), featuring women (oh no, Obama has sex appeal!), and Wayne's World clips (copyright!)! Schhwingg! We're screwed! Obama must go ultra-negative! Hire Mark Penn! Penn has some free time or can split time with his other client, Joe Lieberman! Also, unlike Hillary, Obama will listen to Penn's genius!

* Deep Breath *

So, with Obama out of sight for eight days in the elite, exotic and foreign land of Hawaii, and the massive Big Media attack, and the Georgian conflict, the conventional wisdom should be that this week will end with Obama having his absolutely worse week in the polls, right? Afterall, out of sight is out of mind?

6. your concern concerns me
Your concern concerns me. What if your concern which has invoked my concern causes concern for others. Should it be my concern that your concern concerns others? Would the other people concerned have concern for my concern about your concern?

Okay, I think that is as far as I can take it today.

Raebrek!!!

3. It's Wednesday and yet tracking polls have showed no significant change.
In fact, Obama gained a point on Gramps in Gallup today, 48-42.

4. Amazing Isn't It - The Political Experts Have Warned Us That Obama's Numbers Will Take A Dive
CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and ABC have gone virtually 24/7 in their criticisms of how Obama has handled his campaign, his exoticness, his eliteness, etc. To add to all of this, Obama is not on the campaign trail for 8 days. Thus, if you believe the experts who assure us that this race is razor thin, John McCain should pull ahead by the end of this week in the National Polls, particularly with John McCain looking strong and threatening Russia with war.

5. Bumping - Has McCain Passed Obama Yet?
With Obama out of sight, and the constant media bombardment of anti-Obama stories, and fawning coverage of McCain acting as though he is already President, while ignoring his campaigns role in starting this whole mess, you would think that McCain should be surging ahead by bow. Indeed, CNN has even taken to announcing that its show will discuss "rumors of a Reverand Wright book tour" only to say briefly that no such book exists.

Seriously, even Obama could not raise the type of money that it would take to buy such slanted coverage. How much of an assist does John McCain need to surpass Obama in the polls?

7. Your concerns have been duly noted...
Please expect a response in 5-7 business days.

If you have recieved no response by the end of that time you can assume that I have either been tombstoned or am looking at LOL cats in the Lounge.

8. Hmm, Didn't Notice The Sarcasm Smiles?
I know some folks on DU are sarcasm challenged, so I thought the frequent use of "sarcasm" remarks might help. Sadly, I was wrong.

Okay, to spell it out. DUers have been in meltdown over the various Big Media takes. Yet, despite all of this, McCain is not shooting ahead during the Olympic thread despite Big Media doing pretty much everything it could during this period to rip on Obama while he was off the campaign trail.

Now, if Obama gets even a tiny baby bounce from the convention, he will once again pull clearly ahead of McCain. Yes, Big Media will do its best skew poll results, but this is about as good a week as the GOP has ever gotten in terms of everything coming together, yet McCain is not pulling ahead. Heck, McCain has practically been handed Presidency in connection with the Georgia crisis with no blowback from the media.
