McCain voted for the Bear Study he blasted Saturday.
While John McCain was pandering to his base Saturday at the forum with Rick Warren he gave government spending of 3 million dollars for a DNA study of bears as an example of why America hates Washington. Well it turns out that John McCain actually voted in favor of the bill with pork barrel spending attached to it for the Bear study.

FactCheck.Org

Summary

Republican presidential candidate John McCain cites three absurd-sounding examples of pork-barrel spending in a recent ad: a "bridge to nowhere," a study of the DNA of bears and a Woodstock museum.

McCain is known for fighting against earmarks, the other term lawmakers use for funding of pet projects back home. But he appears to have chosen these three because they're easy to mock, not because he had significant involvement in removing them from the budget.
  • He never specifically went after the "bridge to nowhere," and he was absent for key votes on its funding.
  • While he tried to cut money for several other projects in the same bill, he never proposed cutting the bear study and voted for the final bill containing it.
  • He wasn't present for the most important votes on the Woodstock museum, including one on an amendment he co-sponsored to kill the earmark and divert some of the funds.

12. I knew a bear once. He marked a cross in the dirt with his paw.
I drew a star of david in the dirt with a stick. He ate one of my legs.

13. $3 million for a DNA study of bears?
Hell, that's cheap. And it's cool, too. The hell is fuck John McCain whining about? frankly I find the mitochondrial differences between polar and brown bears to be far more fascinating than anything McCain's ever said

20. What is wrong with a bear DNA study?
Bears are a significant part of the natural world in United States. Grizzlies and some other populations are dying out and there's other issues with bear species intermingling, with poor result. If we lose the bears entirely, we lose a natural predator. Their former prey then becomes our nuisance/predator.

DNA test are expensive. So are researchers. Given the number of species of bear involved, three million sounds low to do the job properly, especially if there's earmarks hanging off it.
