Why wasn't McCain's POWness worth shit to Repubs in 2000?
I mean, nowadays it's his giant selling point. It's all you hear about, and without it he'd be 15% down in the polls. To listen to his right-wing base, you'd think that McCain deserves a free pass to the White House for no reason other than that.

So why wasn't it worth a dime in 2000? Why, if it's such an incredible barometer of manliness, of leadership, of "commander-in-chief"ness was he routinely trounced - barring an early blip - by the Boy King in 2000, a pampered prat whose life experience at that point barely extended past frat parties, gifts from oil men and vacantly sending people to death chambers?

1. Great question. I suspect the answer is that the PTB had already determined that GWB was next. (nt)

6. Good point
Back then, Repubs were running on the "anti-Clinton" platform.

They didn't HAVE to pull out all the "patriotic" shit.

After "9-11" it's now mandatory.

7. Because Rove et al were working for Bush then. Now they work for McCain

Back in 2000 it was all "McCain has a black baby and his wife is insane"

McCain did not like that kind of stuff when it was done to him.

But he is happy to have that team working for him.

So now it is all "HUSSEIN Obama is an anti-American elitist who wants to tax old people"
