Wouldn't it be unfortunate if McCain
self-destructed as a candidate BEFORE he is the official nominee? From a Dem's perpective, he seems like an ideal opponent. Just wondering if we should be using this much fire power at this stage of the game?

1. I want it to happen after he's nominated, when it's too late for the GOP to replace him.

2. nope do not let up continue with full pressure

let them have second thoughts at the convention and hopefully a full blown floor fight.

Right now there hundreds of delegates who are wondering if it isn't too late to change.

Good thing that the Republicans don't have a lot of super delegates like the Democrats.

3. Good point!
That would really be a fine turn of events -- exactly what they were hoping would happen at ours. Thanks.

4. As much as I'd like to see him lose it completely...
And as much as I've voiced that fantasy here on DU, I think it could cause us a lot of problems if he went completely 'round the bend.

I think that would spell "Bush Remains in Office Until a New Republican Nominee is Found"... ugh.

5. They can replace him at anytime
Lincoln was almost removed from the GOP nomination after the convention in 1864 election.

6. I don't think the O campaign has even started yet.
They actually spend very little time rebutting his nonsense.

I think once we get past Labor Day, people will be surprised at the oppo research that will be brought to bear.

And i believe McCain and his boys will be most surprised of all. They truly have no idea what is coming at them.

7. And so
we want him to survive the nomination process, no?

8. Yes, we do.
I think after all the slams he's thrown Obama's way, there will be a certain gratification within the O campaign when they finally start picking him apart.

It ain't gonna be pretty, as they say. I'll stand and cheer, though.

9. He's been trying to self-destruct (accidentally trying of course) but no one,
even our candidate, will call him on it....certainly not the media.
