GOP leader seeks to push Barr off Pa. ballot
(AP)

A Republican Party leader filed court papers Monday aimed at getting Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr taken off the Pennsylvania ballot.

In a petition filed in Commonwealth Court, Victor Stabile alleged that the Libertarians misled people who signed their ballot petitions because they listed Rochelle Etzel of Clarion County as the presidential candidate even after the national party picked Barr at its convention in May.

Barr is a former GOP congressman from Georgia who some Republicans fear could hurt presumptive GOP nominee John McCain in a close election this year. The Libertarian Party formally substituted Barr's name on the Pennsylvania ballot just last week.

Stabile, the Cumberland County GOP chairman and a Harrisburg lawyer, acknowledged that state election laws allow such substitutions as long as they are made within the allotted time, but said he thinks this case "crosses the line."

"I don't like to see anything taint that process," he said.

Mik Robertson, the state Libertarian Party chairman, said the party had to list a stand-in candidate for president when it started gathering signatures in February because there wasn't a nominee at the time.

4. Relax PA isn't in play
500,000 new democrats and more being registered everyday.

Barr is a southern guy he isn't going to get more than .25% of the vote in PA.

6. Not sure being Southern makes a difference
Heck, for all points and purposes, Altoona and Bedford are more "Southern" than my hometown of Knoxville, TN.

7. McClatchy sold two of the biggest papers in Pennsylvania to RW activists.
I have long expected GOPs to make a play to steal Pennsylvania and they will now have the press cover to pull it off.

and though he may on OCCASION say something benficial for the party, his loyalty is with the establishment powerstructure Dems.

5. hopefully dem leaders in the state, lawyers, and reps will be fighting
this tooth and nail. if not, I believe still many right-wingers will not come out for him in a state like PA, but having Barr on their ballot would be great...

9. GOP trying to surpress votes?!?
Say it ain't so!!!

How can you make such a ridiculous argument when the major parties won't officially have their nominee until after the conventions.

I can't imagine facing a mirror everyday with so much hypocrisy looking back at me.
