Kerry Wins Backing from TEN Nobel Economics Laureates!!!
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 10:20 AM by DrFunkenstein
PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - John Kerry won the endorsement of 10 Nobel Prize-winning economists on Wednesday as he attacked President Bush for policies that he said have led to the creation of only low-paying jobs.

The Democratic presidential nominee released a letter from the economists saying the Bush administration had "embarked on a reckless and extreme course that endangers the long-term economic health of our nation."

They cited "poorly designed" tax cuts that instead of creating jobs have turned budget surpluses into enormous budget deficits, a "fiscal irresponsibility threatens the long-term economic security and prosperity of our nation."

Kerry, in remarks prepared for an appearance in Philadelphia, called for "jobs that don't just let you survive but let you get ahead. Jobs that let you pay your bills, send your kids to college, buy a house, save a little for retirement and go out to dinner or a movie every once in a while."

Now, he said, good jobs are being replaced "with ones that just don't pay the bills," -- 1.8 million private sector jobs lost replaced by ones that pay $9,000 less and are more likely to be temporary less likely to offer health insurance.

2. That's nice. But Gore won their endorsement, too.
How far did that get him?

3. Kerry Is A Campaign Brawler
I'm sorry, but Gore just wasn't.

And 2000 wasn't 4 years after a Bush economy, it was peace and prosperity. It means a whole lot more this time around.

9. Yeah
Bush has sardines behind him, I dont know about y'all but I wouldn't want a bunch of smelly fish endorsing me, because sardines are one of the most disgusting fish Ive ever ate, and I hate a lot of fish.

5. I used to think a Nobel Prize was something special, but then. . .
they gave the 1973 Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger.

14. So Bush Wanted A Nobel Prize Winner To Head The 9/11 Commission?
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Facing questions about potential conflicts of interest, Henry Kissinger resigned Friday as chairman of the September 11 commission.

President Bush named Kissinger to lead the 10-member commission last month, dropping his longstanding opposition to an independent probe of the events leading up to the September 11 terrorist attacks.

President Bush, in a brief statement, said he accepted Kissinger's decision "with regret."

"As I stated at the time of his appointment, Dr. Kissinger is one of our nation's most accomplished and respected public servants. I thank him for his willingness to consider serving this country once again," the president's statement said.

Kissinger's appointment was criticized by some who said he was too close to powerful national and international figures to be independent. In an editorial published November 29, The New York Times suggested the White House chose him "to contain an investigation it has long opposed."

It's the second resignation from the commission in two days. Wednesday, former Sen. George Mitchell announced he was stepping down as vice chairman of the independent board. In his letter, Mitchell also cited potential conflicts of interest.

15. Thank god he didnt keep Kissinger
You know the funny thing about him is, I remember seeing the movie Dick when I was about 10, and I thought ahh Kissinger was just a nice young guy working for Nixon, heh I didn't know he was so frigging evil. Funny what you learn isn't it. I wonder when Nobel Lauretes for truth will come out, you know to counteract these guys for Kerry.

7. That story actually also has an excellent summary of the smearvets too
' "The Navy 35 years ago made the awards that it made through the normal process. I'm proud of them and I'm of my service and I'm proud that I stood up against the war when I got home because it was the right thing to do," he (Kerry)added.

The controversy over how Kerry won his medals in that war 35 years ago has recently stolen the spotlight in the race for the White House as both candidates try to portray themselves as best able to lead the United States in its global anti-terror war.

Some veterans, some with ties to the Republican Party and Bush allies, have called Kerry's courage into question and disputed the circumstances under which he received his medals.

But other veterans -- with direct knowledge of events -- have backed him up.

Bush's record during the Vietnam war has also drawn criticism from some Democrats who accuse him of going absent without leave from the Texas Air National Guard, citing gaps in his service record. Bush did not serve in Vietnam. "

It does have one error, claiming Kerry only served "6 months" but they left out the word "Vietnam" I think.

10. ugh
Come on folks, think a little bit. This plays right into Bush's hands.

"Aww shucks, I ain't no gosh durned college purfessur! I'm just the regular ol' guy next door."

Then we'll hear the usual crap about Nobel Laureates all being liberal marxists and "out of touch with the mainstream," blah blah blah.

Did you watch the 2000 debates, RetroLounge? Bush won his so-called "stunning victory" by doing just that - playing dumb and looking stupid.

Americans are stupid and simple-minded. They like a candidate who's just like them. They like cute one-liners and four-letter words. They like "regular ol' guys" like their next door neighbor. They don't like super smart people, because they cannot connect with them.

It's unfortunate we have to "dumb down" Kerry and Edwards, but if we want to win, we're going to have to.

13. Edwards appeals to the regular guy without dumbing down
Kerry can find common ground with many regular guys because he has their hobbies and like many he's a vet. You can appeal to the every day guy without being a fake.

16. Again, This Is Not 2000! This is not a "peace and prosperity" election!
The economy is in the tank. We're facing a greatest quagmire since Vietnam. This is not a situation where people can't tell the policy differences between the candidates, and vote only on personality.
