Biden backs away from "I am not the guy" comment.
Edited on Tue Aug-19-08 07:39 PM by DCBob
Olberman just reported that Biden on his way back from golfing stopped and talked to the press and said something like "I don't know anything" or "I have not been told anything". When directly asked about "not being the the guy" he said something like "I don't know" and told the reporters to go home. That sounds like a retraction of the "I am not the guy" comment. Looks like Biden is it.

1. Gaffe #1. Why didn't he just wave to reporters and say he was going golfing?

4. It's not a gaffe--everybody had disregarded Biden's comment or pointed out
that he was smiling when he said it.

9. No--he shouldn't have said anything, just waved and smiled.
The fact that he had to come back and clarify either showed that HE thought he said something wrong or misleading, or the Obama campaign called him.

27. I'd place my money that the Obama campaign called him
Hard to back down from the "I'm not the guy" comment when you also tell reporters you're going to at your house on Saturday. That's the day Obama unveils his Veep in Illinois.

31. That would be my suspicion at the moment, also.
I'm confused as hell but my tentative guess is that Joe isn't the guy and he knows it. He said too much and got a quick call on the golf course, telling him to shut up for the sake of the team.

when he said "I am not the guy". They think he "is the guy".

5. As a Bidenite, I am very confused.
And exhausted trying to figure it all out.

My guess is that Biden either doesn't know OR he does know.
Who knows?!

10. Pirhana, this is big enough news the last few days
to even get my sorry behind back onto DU. Like I said earlier every part of my body that can be crossed is crossed right now, I'm really hoping to get Joe as VP.

...and that when he was heading out to golf, he was teasing that he "wasn't that guy" ~ meaning he wasn't Joe Biden.

6. Whoever the Veep is they already know about it.
Considering Obama is unveiling whoever it is this Saturday.

I doubt they are gonna get three days notice. These people all have busy schedules with people to meet and things to do. I doubt the call is going to come with less than three days notice that this person has to clear their schedule immideiatly.

I thought the story was that Obama was going to call the nominee and let him/her know on Thursday.

13. Maybe,. But I suspect he has a pretty good idea that he is it.
His "I am not the guy comment" spread like wildfire and he felt he needed to kill it. Suggesting he knows something.

I'm having to laugh at myself trying to keep up... is he the guy or isn't he? LOL... Biden was always funny and I guess this whole thing is no exception.

24. Biden said he's going to be at his home on Saturday
This is what the article said;
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
As Delaware Sen. Joe Biden left his home a few minutes ago, golf clubs in tow, he was asked where he was going to be on Saturday.

Biden replied, "Here" and pointed down to his driveway.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Veep is supposed to be in Illinois this Saturday with Obama. In other words, Biden messed up and let the cat out of bag when he shouldn't have. Who ever is the Veep already knows about it as this juncture.

15. I don't know whether to be relieved or not.
Biden is the perfect fit but if he is "the guy" ... this little exchange does not offer promise.

19. Unfortunately, this highlights Biden's "verbal filter" issue...
And we'll have to be prepared for further "clarifications" if he's the pick.

It doesn't mean he shouldn't be picked if Obama thinks he's "the guy", it just means the next three months are going to feel like a year.

If he was joking, it's not funny.
He could have said anything but that.

My gut tells me that he was telling the truth.
