how Obama can not win without them. I watched Chuck Todd's lips moving, and realized what he was doing. He was campaigning for them.

I am very tired of the pressure on Obama, I am tired of still reliving the FL primaries here with my friends.

I am just so very tired of it.

No one in our party should need that much adulation and pumping up.

Of course Obama can win without her unless the media does McCain's job for him....idolizing him, refusing to say anything about McCain except good stuff.

When the only show we have is turned over to demands that the Clintons be the VP...then I guess I turn the TV off permanently. IBTL, anyone?

3. I am so disgusted. All day the whole effing media has been pushing them.
No one needs that much adulation. No one.

No one patted me on the back when Dean lost. He formed DFA and got to work electing down ticket candidates.

No one gave us any sympathy.

I am very tired of it all.

39. I know the feeling.
No one patted me on the back, either, when Clark lost.

But, he created WesPAK and proceded to stump in the reddest of areas in the reddest of states to help us take back Congress.

And, now, he's been thrown under the bus and told to stay away... all because McCain demanded it of the Obama campaign.

Sigh.

gift with John McCain's draft remark and the campaign not clarifying it. I wish the Clinton thing would go away. Her brother is agitating like mad for her. She needs to bitch slap him into the next century.

29. They've been "right" though for their own group of people, even if it seems "wrong" for us...
Make no mistake about it, these guys aren't carrying on this misinformation campaign out of neglect and incompetence. There's a calculated game of who they give attention to, and how it affects their power over our government.

It might seem "wrong" to us, but from their perspective it seems "right" to keep their corporate power over the rest of us!

side: when Hillary votes for Obama and convinces many of her delegates to do the same, you can tell yourself that they "abandoned" her out of disgust with her supposed misbehavior. So you can keep on being righteous.

81. Obama is the one who relentlessly repeated old RW-talking points about her from the 90s. And let's
not forget the Harry and Sally mailers, which were a knock-off of the Harry and Louise ads. I don't know what's more astounding--that a fellow Democrat did something like that, or that he did it while cultivating a narrative of an unusually negative campaign supposedly coming from the other side.

Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 07:29 PM by zidzi
seen in the last 6 years was last week during the Olympics when I was on vaca in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia in a condo.

cbs evening news with katie couric actually had a positive interview with Valerie Jarrett(one of Obama's key advisers)..wonderful interview. An amazing lady who is African American whose parents ..wait here's the transcript:)and the video..

"Katie Couric: You first met the Obamas when you tired to hire Michelle.

Valerie Jarrett: I did.

Katie Couric: for a job.

Valerie Jarrett: I was trying to recruit her into city government when I was Mayor Daley's deputy chief of staff. And I was successful.

Katie Couric: And before she took the job, she wanted you to meet her fiance?

Valerie Jarrett: She did. In fact the three of us had dinner - she had some serious reservations about whether she's going to leave the practice of law and leap into the mayor's office in a political environment. And the two of them said 'How about we have dinner and go out and talk this through.' And I knew that unless this conversation ended well, probably the two of them were gonna go home and say, "Well, not so much. Maybe that's not the right move." So at the end of the dinner I did say 'well, did I pass the test?' And we laughed and she of course she did come and join us, and made a huge difference.

Jarrett has now known the Obamas for 17 years, and is one of their closest friends, Couric reports. Her title on the campaign is senior adviser - which means she often serves as Obama's surrogate at meetings and events he can't attend. After Michelle, Valerie Jarrett may be one of the people he trusts the most.

Katie Couric: Do they look to you to kind of keep them honest?

Valerie Jarrett: Absolutely. I think I would describe it not so much as to keep them honest but to help them give their own kind of gut check and look at themselves. When you have so many people kind of surrounding you and giving you advice, often times I'll just say, 'you know, what do you think? What do you think is the right thing to do?'"

Katie Couric: I understand you were critical when it came to the controversy over his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. What did you advise him to do?

Valerie Jarrett: It was a very personal and painful experience for both he and for Michelle. And I think, you know, to have your pastor say things with which you totally disagree, that you have never heard him say before, and to say things that weren't so kind to you on a national platform which turns into an international platform was painful. And I did encourage him to give the speech that he gave on race. I encouraged him to, you know, just speak from the heart, which he did. I think it will go down in history as one of the great speeches ever.

Jarrett is considered to be part of a new generation of black leaders, and has been heavily influenced by her pioneering parents, reports Couric. Her mother is a child psychologist and educator who at 80 continues to hold two jobs. Her father is a renowned doctor who traveled with his family to Africa and Iran to study blood diseases and genetics.

Valerie Jarrett: He was the first African-American resident at Pres.-St. Luke's hospital. And he kind of broke the barrier. They had told him he had to come in through the back door, and he wasn't about to do that as a physician and so he walked in the front door. And then the next day, all of the staff came in the front door with him, the African-American staff, so that kind of broke the glass ceiling there.

Katie Couric: How have you been shaped by the accomplishments of your parents?

Valerie Jarrett: To grow up parents who were one step removed from such blatant discrimination, and yet to grow up in a household where my parents said, "Look, life is not fair. Don't expect it to be fair. Work twice as hard. And, just you know, just keep focused on working hard. And eventually it will pay off."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read part of Jarrett interview that didn't make the air.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katie Couric: You've also said it's always going to be harder as a woman. I'm just curious if you saw evidence of that in the primary process and your thoughts on how Hillary Clinton was treated?

Valerie Jarrett: That was a hard journey, and, you know, she took a lot of hits along the way - many times she was treated very unfairly. But she persevered. And so in that sense because it was harder, her accomplishment is even greater.

Katie Couric: What do you envision for yourself if Senator Obama is successful and is elected?

Valerie Jarrett: I can't even go there. You know, it's a very -- it's a simple question. You would think I could answer it. I can't even -- it's a distraction. It's a distraction. And as I said, Senator Obama tells us to keep focused. And as Michelle likes to say -- not getting ahead of ourselves."

The subtext is incredibly insulting.
That he can't handle things without her. It's in the same vein as McCain criticizing Obama for having the ambition to run for president. Erm, he's running for president, too. So that falls apart, until you realize HIS subtext. And it's nasty and ugly.

I STG if I never hear the name Clinton again I'll be happy. That is the point I'm at, when just two years ago I liked both of them.

15. For me?
It has nothing to do with the Clintons per se -

I watched Bill Maher last night on Larry King - and I never watch Larry King. Ever. But for Bill? I'll watch. :-) He was saying the exact same thing.

For me? It's the idea that Obama is a 'weak' candidate and his Veep makes or breaks him. I'm not going to lie. If Obama reaches across the aisle (highly unlikely) and picks Hagel - or any Rethug?

My vote goes Green.

But with all of the names bandied about - all of them sound pretty damn good to me.

It's time to get mad about it.

43. People are pumping Clinton because Obama looks like he can't handle the attacks
And this is coming from someone who was NOT a Hillary supporter during the primary. Clinton is fierce, Obama is coming off like a floundering nice guy.

52. It will soon all be over.
Obama did the right thing in holding back because McCain would not announce until Obama did.

The fraud is McCain who is basing his VP pick on whoever Obama picks.

I wish Obama had held off until Monday or Tuesday putting McCain in an even bigger box.

if he chooses Hillary, it will be because he knows what she brings to the ticket. All this bashing of the Clintons is silly. It's up to Obama.

from Tweety, Ed Schultz, Ralph Nader and now even Olbermann. WTF is this? I'd say operation chaos is alive and well. Or maybe they just have to gin up the controversy hoping to keep their ratings up.

83. Obama doesn't need the Clintons....They are only two or three votes....
He needs those 18,000,000 Democrats and others who voted for her and supported her till the end and who still do.

And Obama needs a minor miracle that will undo the damage done to the Democratic Party by all the Hillary hate which just will not stop. It just will not stop. Count the threads on this forum board.

And fear not, Senator Hillary Clinton as Vice President is a huge demotion for her just as she has acquired personal dominance and seniority in the US Senate. And the Democrats need to solidify their majority in the Senate.

This election is not just about Obama and Clinton. Put aside the temper tantrums and the Hillary hate and think - just think!
