I want to give (another) shout out to the most honorable Man of the Year, Vietnam veteran Jim Rassmann, who called John Kerry’s campaign headquarters early in the primary race and told them: “I saw that John is in another tough fight, and I want to lend a hand.”
Jim was mostly absent from the coverage of Max's visit to the Bush compound. He went all the way to Crawford to tell the president that he wasn't a liar.
He has proudly and graciously recounted to all who would listen how John Kerry saved his life during combat. The citation that accompanies Bronze Star that Jim Rassmann petitioned for on John Kerry's behalf reads:
“The man was receiving sniper fire from both banks. Lt. Kerry directed his gunners to provide suppressing fire, while from an exposed position on the bow, his arm bleeding and in pain, with disregard for his personal safety, he pulled the man aboard.
Against all of the flack that's coming at his friend from bitter veterans and others regarding Kerry's service and wounds, Jim Rassmann has remained an effective foil to the cynical and spiteful attacks. His virtue and faithfulness is an impenetrable shield against the lies and his loyalty is an eternal outstretched hand; a true match to Kerry's selfless actions 35 years ago.
Here's to a true patriot! Jim Rassmann!
