I like really fine footwear.

If I disclosed how many pairs of shoes and boots I own that cost in excess of $500 (or $1,000), I would probably be banned from DU.

31. Yes, but the vast majority of Americans wouldn't even consider spending that amount
on a pair of shoes and would have trouble relating to the idea that someone does. I think making an issue of this would help much more than it would hurt in terms of combatting the McCain camp's charges that Obama is an elitist and that somehow McCain isn't. Although I'm sure the media would defend McCain's $500 shoes on account of him being a POW...

54. Still, I doubt a majority of women would
and I'd expect that a miniscule percentage of men would, which is why I think making it an issue would help more than it would hurt. If arugula and wind-surfing were fair game, expensive shoes and not knowing how many houses you own should also be, IMHO.

Even with three pairs of dress shoes, two pairs of sneakers, and 2 pairs of sandals, my shoes probably don't add up to $500. And I have some nice shoes, too. Granted, I'm a guy, so I don't need that many shoes, but we won't go there...

50. Raised on a farm in southern Indiana.

We got electricity the year before I was born, and indoor plumbing while I was still a babe. My dad worked two jobs while my mom mended clothes for folks to support the family (I have an older sister and brother).

Elementary school had three classrooms and teachers. So one teacher would spend an hour teaching 1st grade then switch over to the 2nd grade for an hour.

One summer in my teens during a drought the water line to the spring broke open right under the hog house. So I had to dig a ditch to lay a new line around the hog house (it just occurs to me for the very first time after three decades that we could have temporarily patched into it running the line ABOVE ground for a few days so I didn't have to rush; d'oh!). That first day I used pick and shovel to get maybe a fifth of the way. Ate lunch with my gloves on because my hands hurt so much. Went home when it got too dark to work. Pulled my gloves off over the kitchen sink because they were full of blood by that point. Then got up the next morning and started all over again.

So, yeah, I do come from a humble background. But I excelled in the public school, my parents paid my way through a state college, I got my first job with a gov't agency, and ultimately went on to make a lot of money in private enterprise.

This reminds me of the story of that guy from Africa who asked a visiting missionary why in the world he had more than one pair of shoes. The missionary didn't understand why the African was confused over the fact that he had more than one pair of shoes. The African man said "but you only have two feet."

My favorite pair of hers are the sexiest black n white Chanel pumps you've ever seen and they're so comfortable I can dance all night in them and never get sore or blistered feet. I think she said they cost her just under $600 at Harrod's in London. Then she has 4 or 5 pairs of shoes, mostly from Italy that range from $300 to $500, and some others she bought in Europe but I don't remember where. She's been all over.

Boy am I glad we wear the same size shoe:-)

71. I don't own any that cost over $25.00
And since I have only 1 pair that is 2 years old and falling apart, that would be a $25.00 shoe bill.

74. My wife has one pair that cost her $1400
2.5" high heels, custom made for her foot, leg, and arch. She can wear them all day without them getting uncomfortable, but she's only worn them once. On our wedding day. The cost of the shoes was a pittance compared to what she spent on that dress though...I'm just glad her DAD was paying for it all!

My wife is a shoe collector, and easily has 30-40 pairs in her closet. She buys them on sale or at BOGO's though, and rarely spends more than $20 a pair. The $1400 shoes were a one time thing for our medieval themed wedding, where she played the part of the princess in every way that mattered :)

79. None
I would never pay $500 for a pair of shoes. Just not me. I am not a fashion bug.

81. My most expensive pair is $80
But I just bought a pair of Born Shoes at a retail Department store on sale for $13.00
I guess that's the plus of a weak economy lots of good sales on shoes.
