1. NBC called Cleland a surrogate for the Kerry campaign
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 05:36 PM by ikojo
and led off the story saying the Kerry campaign took the Swift Boat ad controversy to the Bush ranch in Texas. Throughout the story they continued to associate Cleland with the Kerry campaign.

PIGS!

4. Well, Cleland is associated with the Kerry campaign.
And a mighty goddamn big credit to the campaign he is.

We don't mind people knowing that Kerry took the fight to Bush. He's standing up to the boy prince bully.

10. And Proudly So.
Kerry is upfront about his activity. Not a coward like Bush.

2. CBS' turned in a fairly good report.
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 05:36 PM by Karmadillo
There was an obligatory reference to Kerry attorneys involved with 527s, but all in all the impression was of a bad day for Bush. They allowed a direct quote from Cleland as he tried to deliver the letter and then a reference to the Bush campaign picking up on the attacks on Kerry's criticism of the Vietnam War after his return to the US.

8. lying liar and their lies
Bret Hume just said Kerry said in his book that He heard about MLK's murder while in Nam then said Kerry was lying because of the date. I heard Kerry was there and came back or something like that. These guys on the news are slimy too.

13. In which book is he supposed to have said this?
And what did he actually say.

King was assassinated April 4, 1968. At that time, Kerry was aboard the USS Gridley, which was in the Gulf of Tonkin during much of that tour.

16. That is so disappointing!
Are they sinking even lower than cable? There lurch to the right has been striking in recent years, but to not even mention Max is extreme.
And people think NPR is liberal!

14. it wasn't Martin Luther King...
...it was Robert Kennedy. I think. If I remember this correctly (from that CNN special on Kerry) that he landed (or disembarked) in LA the day after RFK was assassinated... and that it was devastating to him. I only remember because it seems it came on the heels of discussing how much Kerry admired JFK.

If Brit Hume said that, he needs to get his lies straight.

15. it was RFK, not MLK...
...here's a quote from WorkingForChange (http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?ItemID=16981)

Kerry's political narrative starts on June 5, 1968 -- the night Bobby Kennedy was assassinated: John Kerry is on board the USS Gridley, returning home from Vietnam. He carries with him a dog-eared copy of RFK's political manifesto "To Seek a Newer World." During the last month, Kerry has been using the ship's radio to follow Kennedy's remarkable campaign run. But when he tunes in to hear the results of the California primary, the crackling radio delivers the horrifying news that Bobby has been gunned down -- news that rocks Kerry to his core. "It was strange," he says, "coming home from a place of violence to a place of violence... a violence that shook our very sense of the order of things."

Apparently Brit Hume was so eager to try to diminish Kerry that he's incapable of getting his facts straight.
