What advantage does * gain by banning all 527's?
I keep hearing about * trying to turn the tables on Kerry about the swift boat veterans ad and wanting to ban all 527's. Is banning all 527's bad for Kerry?

6. Actually the second largest 527 is pro-Bush.
Bush's problem is dealing with facts as opposed to fiction.

2. Because there's more money coming from..

..the grass roots to support pro-Democratic ads than Republican ads. Remember the success Kerry had raising money over the Internet from poor slobs like you and me? Same principle. At least with 527's the common person can put their money to use.

Bush has used them when they were to his advantage.
Now they have allowed Kerry advocates to match GOP spending. Without an outright advantage of money Bush doesn't think it's fair.

3. You bet
MoveOn has them running scared because the Repubs usually have the most money and the rabid religous organizations to support them.
Finally a progressive org has come on the scene to challenge their monopoly and they can't deal with a level playing field!

4. Let me put it this way
if you were Karl Rove, and could trade Swift Boat Weazels for Bush to get rid of MoveOn.org, would you? Yes, in a heartbeat.

8. If Shrubbie had as much or more support
from 527's this would not be a sore point for him. The problem the GOP has is most of the 527 money is supporting Kerry. All they have really is the Swiffer Vets and some other little group.

10. bush* doesn't want to ban 527's
In fact, he thinks they're "free speech". He doesn't want the swiftboat ads to stop--or didn't want them to stop--because they are helping him--or he thought they would help him.

Bush just wants to SEEM like he's against 527's. It's his modus operandi--say you're against something so you can get credit for it morally, but simultaneously let the underlings pimp it for all it's worth. Plausible deniability.

11. Fairness Doctrine's gone, so the repubes have an advantage
in "getting their message out"..They have the corporate masters on their side..you know the ones.. The ones who own all the newspapers/magazines/radio/tv...

There is NO SHORTAGE of venues to pound the republican message home...24/7..

The 527's were a venue that they did not even "need", until millions of ordinary Dems (and a few well-off ones) discovered the 527 benefit..

The repubes have "owned" the stage and microphone until now, and we have managed to get onstage with them, and they HATE IT...

sooooooo...

they decided to come up with the worst possible smears they could imagine, using the same format as we have, and then "generously" offer to ''take theirs off, if we do too"... That would leave them in the drivers' seat again..

as awful as theirs are, we must stick with it...
