Will anything really work as far as us winning over them?
I'm thinking nothing anybody in the world could say would make me change my mind and vote for Bush. I have a feeling it's this way for anti-Kerry people, as well. So, with all the theatrics, all the disclosures, all the smoking guns, all the dead bodies, the veterans, the lawyers, the spies, the "journalists," etc., will anything really change anybody's mind? I honestly feel like someone could come up with a picture of Bush raping a Shetland pony and it wouldn't matter to his supporters. They's lie it away, or claim it was good for the pony. So, what do we do?

1. It has to affect them personally
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 08:15 PM by GTRMAN
I live in the middle of a bunch of "good Christian Republicans" and the one thing I can tell you about them from experience is it's all about them and they could give a shit about their neighbor, much less the nation. The only way for them to see the light is when they start personally suffering because of the failed policies of those they support. As long as their lives are going along well, they think everything is just peaches and cream in the world.

3. By the time it hits them personally, it will be too late.

9. I know

But sometimes I think the only way these pigheaded people are ever going to get it is to let these rat bastards take the country far enough into the crapper that it actually shakes them out of their pastor-and-oxyrush induced coma. By then, it would probably take a bloody revolution to set things right again.

4. My husband listens to talk radio out in the garage and I had the
unfortunate need to get something from out there. The way these people, the hosts and callers, spin what is going on with the SBVT is just unreal. One guy called in and said, "It's the Democrats who keep dragging out this Vietnam stuff. We want to talk about the issues and all they want to do is tell these lies."

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

2. I'd like to see that picture, though.
I wouldn't be surprised if there's one around somewhere.

I don't think we can win over any hardcore Bush supporters, but fighting back is important. I'm glad Kerry's doing it.

10. I agree, he should fight back, but I'm thinking all these millions on both
sides of the aisle are going to preach to each choir and nothing's going to change. Not to say we won't win. I think we will, but Gawd, the process is brutal. Maybe, I just need to take another break from it for a while.

6. We're not trying to change *their* minds..
We can't get the hardcore Bush supporters, we want to influence the swing voters. They are the ones we cannot allow to be swayed by the SBL's.

7. No. But there are many people in the middle of the political
field, many who have had the opportunity, but have never voted or even registered before, who are doing it now.

Their daughters and sons are in Iraq, or could be drafted. This for a war that even Joe and Joan Average can see was a horrific mistake.
They are carrying a larger tax burden than the wealthy.
They even are seeing that in the war against terrorism, Iraq should not have been in the top 10 of countries that should have been attacked.
They are losing their jobs and precious health care.

Don't even worry about the bushbots. They mean nothing.

Your nice, working-class, family next door is who we need to concern ourselves with.

Bunnypant's bombs have hit them just exactly where they live. Dead center. They may not know that all this has been a result of bushit's policies (not meant to slog them, either, they just have lives to live and can't follow the news). We need to gently and rspectfully tell them the truth.

Need talking ponts? Read "Bush Must Go" by Bill Press. Very easy to understand, hits at the issues that Middle america cares about.

8. Depends on who 'them' is.
Christian Conservatives, you point out how Bush has done nothing to help thier cause.

Libertarians, you point to the deficit and the invasions.

Country Clubers, you point out the fake down home nonsense.

Economics, you point out the stagnation.

Military, you point out the pointless war in Iraq and cuts to VA.

Aim your message.
