4. they are denigrating the service on the ship. I'd like them...
to say that to the men on that ship.

"you didn't really serve. it was just training."

and they say kerry is dumping on the vets. these freepers do nothing but denigrate the vets' service. they bring shame to this country with their actions and words.

13. Yes, I'll bet those men on that ship were free to take time off
to work on someone's political campaign, or to get out early to go to Harvard business school.

18. Even the training can be deadly
Friend of mine was killed in 72 in a shipboard accident on the way to Vietnam.

He had a low draft number and enlisted in the navy because he thought he'd have a better chance of staying out of combat. He never saw combat at all, still came home in a box.

5. These people are sick.
Just because he is the democratic candidate everything he has every done is bad, evil, wrong.
It is impossible for their little brains to realize that people that you disagree with on issues can still be good people that have done good thing.

7. By Any Means Necessary
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 12:30 PM by kwolf68
The point of these statements from people like this is the absolute willingness of these people to deride a man’s military service because: A) If his service is legitimate, it makes their man (Bush) all the more weak and hapless in compared to Kerry, and B) Their version of truth (Rush Limbaugh, Swift Boat Websites, and right-wing publications) become absolute fact to be parroted verbatim. In short, they do what the Conservative mindset breeds one to do: Defeat the opposition “by any means necessary.”

To them, Democrats are so vile, so evil that no matter how lousy their candidate is and no matter how wrong the attacks are, true success can only be measured by how many Democrats are defeated at the polls. Even if their candidate is completely incompetent and a total, abject failure on nearly every issue, they must never allow a Democrat to win. And if it's what is good for this nation? Not a question, because to them no Democrat is good for this nation especially ones who can use a Republican trump card (Military Service) to gain appreciation from the public.

Now these people on FR will vote Republican even if the Republicans came out and suggested we nuke the world, but how many independent, moderate thinking voters will be turned off by the fraudulent perception that Kerry is “prostituting” a war service that he didn’t justly deserve? How dirty and hypocritical has the politics gotten when a man awarded 3 Purple Hearts and a Silver Star has his gallantry questioned? These same people who bashed Bill Clinton because he “dodged the draft” and further protested the war will then bash Kerry because “he didn’t do enough” when in Vietnam and his service was a fraud.

When do these Right-Wing hacks draw the line? When do they say, “Thank you Mr. Kerry for defending America and serving out nation…now I want to defeat you because I disagree with your policy ideas.”

If we can get the debate around issues, policies, and ideas then maybe our nation can rise above the abyss that political discourse has become. Yet, as long as Conservatives are running the game, I fear we will remain right where they want to keep us…divided and hating each other.

God Bless America…at least the 35% that is Conservative!

12. Very well put. I just wish I knew how to open their eyes.
There have been many republican candidate I have worked to defeat & have voted against, but could still respect them as people. I have been able to appreciate positive things they had accomplished & believed that they were doing what they thought best.

I have conservative friends & family I love even though I have strong disagreements with their stands on issues.

The fact that their are so many people like those in freeperville in our country scares the hell out of me.

What is probably the hardest thing for me to deal with is the people that beat everyone else over the head with their "Christianity" but go against what were Christ's true teaching of love, compassion, peace, forgiveness, helping the poor, etc. IMHO

14. I think the FR is a small group
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 01:10 PM by kwolf68
I don’t believe their hateful views represent many Conservatives.

My family is basically all Conservative as are most of my friends. I had a fantasy football draft party where the most politically right of the bunch and I ran around town picking up snacks for the party.

Well, he went in on me and as I was rebutting him he was agreeing with everything I was saying. EVERYTHING. He is also very religious and I tossed the hateful intolerance, revenge, blood lust, death, war and carnage back at him…asking him really…what would Jesus be doing?

I mentioned how large corporation’s control our government and the specter of beauty of our natural environment is being sold out on an altar of corporate greed, consumerism, and efficiency.

I talked about the sacrifice of the American labor market and our small, family farms who don’t merely represent a wheel in America’s economic machine, but the very fabric of our culture…and I wasn’t prepared to sacrifice them for a fucking 75 cents cut on my motorized tie racks.

I gave him my spiel and he could do nothing but mutter in agreement.

At the end of the day however, all that didn’t matter, because Democrats were the party of “big government”, “leftist”, “tax and spend Liberals”…The man was completely void of any intellectual analysis of pragmatic reactions to the ills that affect our world. In short, he had become enslaved to his ideology and that is where his religion begins and ends. He is not an anomaly on the right.

6. They need to make up their minds
Remember how much military service meant when CLINTON was running for office?

Now they're implying it doesn't mean anything when Kerry has medals?!?

Flip-floppers!

10. I read the thread...
I would like to think that my experiences at the DU are a far more open-minded experience.

I salute their persistence in seeking out materials, however they certainly don't mind treading over a lot of other vets to make their point.

I'm amused by their arrogance in sitting in the peanut gallery and judging whose service is meaningful and who's wasn't.

15. Can they be more stupid?
I never read these FR threads, but decided to see if they really did finally get it about two tours. For the most part, it appears not. And somebody says he doesn't understand the difference between ribbons and medals. Geez, obviously they don't or they'd know the ribbon IS the medal. I don't know how much longer I can stand living in a country with such completely stupid people.

I mean Limbaugh, Hannity, etc., have been hammering on Kerry's sevice for months. Just once, I'd like to hear one of the freeps say, "Gee, how come nobody ever mentioned THIS to me?"

20. I'm 15% stupider from reading both threads
Can people be anymore stupid??

The bit about someone not being able to be honorably discharged until they fulfill their entire obligation is just incredibly ignorant.

I got out one year early because I was pregnant and with an honorable discharge, too. I guess that means my five year service to my country is meaningless now.

I'm so fucking pissed right now. The more these people keep going, the more they denigrate every single one of us that's ever put on a uniform.

They have no clue what they're doing to every vet and every servicemember by this crap they're spewing. What's worse, is they don't even give a damn.

Cyn
