A key point in Battleground 2004 poll: We must energize Base!!

Cecilia Lake in her analysis of the Battleground 2004 poll which gives Kerry a one-point 44-43 point lead over Bush has this to say:
"In an election where turnout is key, it is important to note that Democrats and Republicans are equally energized (77 percent and 76 percent extremely likely to vote respectively) showing parity among Democrats unlike the previous Battleground. Democrats, however, need to be alert that African-Americans (67 percent extremely likely) and Hispanics (62 percent) show less intensity, while Republican base voters--namely, white evangelical Christians (77 percent)--are energized.

2. Michael Moore said something interesting last month in Boston

He pointed to a precinct in Cleveland, a precinct which is roughly 96% black. Out of the whole precinct, 16% voted in 2000. As Moore said, you can't get more base than that!

The Dems really need to reach more into their base.
