NEW FOX POll, Kerry still leads 44-43
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 02:16 PM by demdem
No link yet. But that's not bad for a fox poll. Although I find it hard to believe that only 77% of republicans strongly back Bush and only 64% Democrats strongly back Kerry. This is inline with the small movement that has been happening since the swift boat liars. But this can easily be picked up later.

The presidential race is tied with Kerry holding a one-point advantage over Bush among likely voters, down from a five-point edge immediately following the Democratic National Convention. When independent candidate Ralph Nader (search) is included, he receives three percent, Kerry 44 percent and Bush 43 percent. More Bush voters say they back their candidate strongly. Fully 77 percent of Bush supporters say they back him "strongly" compared to 64 percent of Kerry voters. Both candidates receive equally strong backing from their party faithful; Bush is supported by 88 percent of Republicans and Kerry by 85 percent of Democrats. Kerry has a small six-point edge over Bush among independent voters. By a four-point margin, women are more likely to pick Kerry over Bush, while men are evenly divided. Among veterans, Bush tops Kerry by 51 percent to 42 percent in the two-way matchup. It should be noted that these results are based on a small number of veterans.

1. The important number is Bush's
Kerry's number will fluctuate as undecideds are swayed by events...they go from Kerry to undecided and back again. Bush's number has been stuck in this range for months and shows no signs of changing. From that perspective, this is a good result.

3. Good point

I think * has gotten all the votes he’s going to get. Kerry can either win over the undecided or push them to Nadar or Bush.

These undecided also will (hopefully) be giving this election some thought. If that’s the case, I like our chances. Just knee-jerk cliché filled platitudes appeal to the Bushbots and they have already staked out their claim.

I like our chances…I wanted to get to post-RNC dickdance with Kerry no worse than tied in the polls. Considering Bush has had a month of un-countered campaign advertisements, we’ve been deflecting Swine-Boat campaigns the fact of the matter is we are in great shape.

Depending on how the media whores choose to cover the RNC will have a big effect. Remember the drones like Ralph Reed they brought out to immediately rebut DNC speakers? I don’t expect the same this go round which may cost us initially in the polls.

2. In the fine print is Junta Boy's political obit.
Kerry has a small six-point edge over Bush among independent voters. By a four-point margin, women are more likely to pick Kerry over Bush,

Women turn out more reliably than men, and there are no new trees for Bush to shake the votes from if Kerry leads the independents.
