Arlen Specter: "The voter" more concerned with Russia, Georgia and Iran than paying bills.
From CNN's Late Edition:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BIDEN: You talk about how much you're worried about being able to pay the bills. Well, ladies and gentlemen, that's not a worry John McCain has to worry about.

It's a pretty hard experience. He'll have to figure out which of the seven kitchen tables to sit at.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BLITZER: All right. A clever line referring to how many homes the McCains own. But what do you think?

SPECTER: Well, I think that when the voter goes into that polling booth, he's going to be a lot more concerned about what Russia's doing in Jordan -- Georgia on their invasion or what's happening with Iran and their developing a nuclear bomb.

And John McCain has had a pretty -- pretty rugged life. He has not exactly had a life with a silver spoon in his mouth. John McCain has experienced more personal adversity than anybody I know -- certainly anybody in the United States Senate.

And I think he understands tough problems and the way to deal with them. I don't think anybody could ever fault John McCain about being able to deal with adversity and going through really a living hell, which is...

Personally, I don't think it should be about how much personal adversity one has suffered. The White House isn't a social club for people to get together and compare war stories. It's a consideration, but a political campaign should be about how a candidate is dealing with it now, and how his outlook on life inspires others and uses the lessons he has learned to deal with even more adversity. Like say, the kind that happens to Presidents of major countries in times of war. But that's just me.

2. Arlen, we're worried about both subjects
and it will occur to many that now is not the time to have a bad tempered trigger happy cowboy driving the bus.

Sometimes, ya gotta be cool to survive.

3. Besides McCain's stint as a POW, I'd say he's lived a rather silver spooned life.
His grandfather and father were both Admirals, his wife is rich, and he wears $550.00 shoes... come on. you think its been all that hard. AND I'm not so worried about Georgia or Russia when I don't have enough money to get through the week. If you don't have money to eat and pay bills, then what does it matter if a bomb does you in?

7. You're right Arlen
When I spend my last $5 to buy a gallon of gas to go vote in November instead of eating that day, Russia and Georgia will be the first thing I think of.....

8. I saw that, I think he was wrong, people worry about domestic matters.
At least the ones who we need to come out to vote.

The shit in Georgia is, to them, just more noise in foreign countries and they're already sick of hearing about Iraq.

And I kind of like Arlen Specter and wonder if he was deliberately toning down what could have been greater criticism.

Some democrats, like Rendell, have done far more damage today.

14. "The Dems say Republicans are out of touch with the needs of Americans."
"Now, listen while I prove them absolutely correct."

And McCain "has not exactly had a life with a silver spoon in his mouth"? He went from being the privileged son and grandson of Admirals to being the privileged husband of an heiress and the privileged favorite senator of the idiot punditocracy. The only time he DIDN'T have a silver spoon in his mouth was when he was a POW--but he's been milking those five years for the past thirty (and nearly every day this past year, regardless of the issue) that that's practically becoming another sort of privilege, strangely enough.

15. I really thought Specter was smarter than this
The majority of people in this country couldn't find Georgia on a map if it was the only country labeled. Same for Iran. Hell, the fweeper element probably thought Putin had invaded Atlanta. Even though the real story, as usual. leads back to Likudniks and PNACers encouraging the Georgians to attack areas that wanted to reunite with Russia.

If this asshat truly believes that the average voter cares more about that than paying their fucking mortgage, buying groceries and filling the tank he is living on the goddamn moon and huffing gasoline. Furthermore, McCain has never experienced a day of financial adversity in his life.
