BushCo has nothing to lose by ending 527s..they have 501(c)s
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 03:27 PM by Zookeeper
A few days ago, I came across this article from the May, 2004 Washington Monthly:

"Bush's Secret Stash," by Nicholas Confessore

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2004/0405.confessore.html

Aside from flinging mud, the SBVT ads have given BushCo the excuse to call for an end to those oh-so-inconvenient 527s. They have nothing to lose, especially since they have major financial support from "trade associations" that are free to advertise for a candidate, yet NOT have to disclose their source of funding.

Please help get the word out on this, especially with Bushie in the news today calling for an end to 527s.

I sent a message to Countdown last night, but am not counting on it going anywhere.

Edited to give y'all the correct link.

3. And they own the media
CBS wouldn't even sell Moveon a spot during the Superbowl. And cable news is like a 24/7 attack ad.

4. Repukes and Media making 527s the issue, rather than their content!
How many times is Bush going to be allowed to benefit by abusing something?

5. trade ads
I think I may have already heard one of these ads...I was appalled..it was an ad that was supposedly from the Department of Commerce or something like that and they were urging people to vote for Bush because he is for small business or something, and I thought to myself...DEPT of commerce?? Isnt that a government branch?? They cant endorse a candidate. Looking back, it was probably a trink on words to make them sound like a 'department' of government but is probably some trade assoc. Damn, they are sneaky little evil bastards!

6. Exactly....
Here are some of BushCo's fronts:

Americans for Job Security, Progress for America, American Taxpayer Alliance (run by Repub operative, Scott Reed), Americans for Responsible Government and the National Committee for a Responsible Senate.

My favorite:

"Then there's the benignly-named United Seniors Association(USA), which serves as a soft-money slush fund for a single GOP-friendly industry: pharmaceuticals. USA claims a nationwide network of more than one million activists, but...listed zero income from membership dues in its most recent available tax reture. USA does, however, have plenty of money on its hands. During the 2002 elections, with an 'unrestricted educational grant' from the drug industry burning a hole in its pocket, the group spent roughly $14 million...on ads defending Republican member of Congress for their votes on a Medicare prescription-drug bill."

You were sharp to be suspicious. 'Wish more people were.
