EPA- U.S. Waterways Contain Polluted Fish
John Heilprin, Associated Press
August 24, 2004

WASHINGTON- More than one-third of the nation's lakes and nearly one-fourth of its rivers contain fish that may be contaminated with mercury, dioxin, PCB and pesticide pollution, the Environmental Protection Agency says.

Michael Leavitt, the administrator of EPA, said emissions of mercury from human activities dropped about 45 percent from 1990 to 1999, but he did not provide more recent figures. Pollution from mercury comes from industry such as coal-fired power plants, the burning of hazardous and medical waste and production of chlorine.

This year, 44 states had a fish advisory for mercury, a persistent substance that affects the nervous system. The EPA national list for 2003 shows 48 states issued 3,094 advisories - up from 2,800 the previous year - because of polluted fish.

2. Wow I hope they continue
If there's one issue Kerry is undoubtedly amazingly strong on, it's the environment. That's incredibly stupid by them considering how terrible Bush is on the environment. Just look at the League of Conservation Voters; hate Bush, love Kerry.

3. Voter suppression
It is all they have left, trying to get Kerry's base to sit this one out. What they forget is the progressive left knows Bush is much, much worse for the environment than any other potential President.

4. It's just another example..
of Rove seeking to define Kerry on an issue before Kerry can define himself (in the media).

5. Words fail me. How do you even describe such claims?
audacious, brazen lies? Can't think of terms extreme enough to describe how far over the line of decency these guys have traveled.

and it proved to be reasonably effective bluster for the media.

My question is:

Does anyone remember Bush's campaign promise to invest $100 milion in rainforest conservation?

As I recall, it was the first one that he broke- and hardly anyone called him on it. Perhaps the Kerry camp might consider pointing out that cynical (and obviously dishonest) ploy....

8. This is how they feed the "not much difference" meme and suppress vote
turnout on the left.

Remember all those disruptors who would come here and say they won't even bother to vote because there's no difference between Bush and Kerry?
GOP operatives have been doing this for decades.

10. The guy can't think of any new tricks.
He did the exact same thing to McCain in 2000:

<snip>
WASHINGTON (AP) - A pair of Texas brothers who have donated and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for George W. Bush are behind a $2 million ad campaign touting Bush's record on the environment and attacking John McCain.

Sam and Charles Wyly have donated $210,273 to Bush's gubernatorial campaigns. Charles has raised more than $100,000 for the Bush presidential effort, and the Wyly family has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to GOP candidates
across the country.

``We have had a lot to do with building the Republican party in Texas and nationally,'' Sam Wyly said Friday. ``And we'd appreciate it if the elected Republicans would look at our cause.''

The Wylys' group, Republicans for Clean Air, purchased some $2.5 million in ads in three key states holding primaries on Tuesday - New York, California and Ohio, although some of the stations were jittery about running them given questions about whether the group, which did not exist a week ago, is legitimate.

<snip>

You'll also note that in this article, Bush had said, `There is no connection between my campaign and this ad,''

Seriously. When will people wake up and see how this man presents himself. It makes me want to bang my head against the wall! :mad: :mad: :mad:

12. The mind yet boggles...
that the President with the worst environmental record in history attacks the Senator with one of the best.

And, of course, they can get away with these lies because hardly anyone bothers to actually read the news.

Goebbels is dancing a jig in hell.
