1. I will take that
The times poll has always been a tough one for Kerry. I actually like all the polls I saw today. During the Abu Garaib and Tang issues Bush's numbers dropped farther than Kerry's.

13. Seems like no change since Reagan's death and Iraq handover

NBC News By Mark Murray Aug. 26, 2004WASHINGTON -<snip>According to the survey, which was conducted by Hart/McInturff, Bush and Dick Cheney get support from 47 percent of registered voters, Democrats Kerry and John Edwards get 45 percent, and Independents Ralph Nader and Peter Camejo get 3 percent. Those numbers are virtually unchanged from the last NBC/Journal poll, which was released on July 22. Overall, 50 percent of registered voters believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction, compared with 36 percent who believe it’s headed in the right direction. And asked whether Bush deserves re-election, 50 percent say no, while 46 percent say yes. All of these results are practically identical to the findings from the July survey.

NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll conducted by the polling organizations of Peter Hart (D) and Robert Teeter (R). July 19-21, 2004. N=813 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.4
"If the election for president were held today, and George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were the Republican candidates, John Kerry and John Edwards were the Democratic candidates, and Ralph Nader and Peter Camejo were running as independent candidates, for whom would you vote?" If unsure: "Well, which way do you lean at this time?"

Democrat Stan Greenberg and Republican Bill McInturff.
In the poll, conducted July 18-20, Kerry was favored by 47 percent of respondents, the president by 46. The poll's margin of error is 3.46 percent. But the survey also shows Kerry leading in swing states -- those in which neither party's presidential candidate dominated in the 2000 election.Fifty-four percent of poll respondents also continue to see the country as being on the wrong track, compared with 40 percent saying things are going in the right direction. That also matches the June poll. And President Bush's approval rating has fallen to 49 percent -- the first time it has slipped below 50 percent (where it was in June), according to the latest poll<snip>

8. Right!
The debates are yet to come, and the Kerry campaign yesterday began the process of upping the expectations for the (p)resident. Senator Kerry said something like "he won the debate with Ann Richards, He won the debates with Al Gore, he is a very good debater"...Good strategy!

3. A whole lotta Bulls==t going on...
here.

Timmy (Porcine) and Tom (speech impediment)talked about the 'easygoing and likable' Bush vs. Kerry's need to persuade the uncommitted.

Timmy looks genuinely concerned that the two-digit IQ guy is having a problem.
Easygoing? Likable? who the hell are they talking about? He's got a temper like no one else, can't stand to be contradicted, doesn't even talk to anyone unless it's scripted in toto.

It's just unbefuckinglievable...

you wouldn't know it from the way Timmy the whore reported it on the news tonight. He acted as though Kerry was in freefall.

6. The part that really grabs is the various results of questions within
the poll. Everyone of them was a big thumbs down on Bush....and then when they get to the "so who ya' gonna' vote for, dude", the people shout "well, Bush, of course". You can't do much with that kind of dumb. And, unfortunately, that kind of dumb will be the winning margins in way too many states.

10. That's not sustainable for an incumbent.
Carter led Reagan too, but eventually people said, "Wait a minute here. Things suck."

12. The L.A. Times also has * up a couple of % points in MO, OH and WI...
http://www.latimes.com/

It does look like the Swift-turd smears have had some effect.

That said, there are still more than two months of hard campaigning to go -- not to mention the debates.

Nothing is cast in stone yet.

18. POLLS LAG BY A WEEK ....
Please keep this in mind. These polls were taken at the height of the Swift Smear hysteria and they still show Kerry tied with Bush.

I was actually enormously relieved by the polls today. I think Kerry has started to fight back and, more importantly, these lies are starting to come to light. That will be reflected in the polls in about a week right when the convention is ending.

Remember, Bush has NOT been able to get above 50% in any poll. That is the magic number. The battlegrounds and undecideds look good and the right track/wrong track looks great.

We are in a very nice position and Kerry after a few missteps is running an effective campaign ....

Yesterday, I was expecting to take have to take a break from DU for a while because the polls would be negative. Instead I am heartened and energized because the poll numbers look really good ....

August was always going to be the hardest month and I think we are in there fighting well ...

19. Timmy did say the internals were warning sign for Bush.
First he talked about the numbers on right/wrong direction, Iraq war, economy were bad for Bush. Then Tommy asked, this must mean good number for Kerry? Timmy quoted the horse race number, and did mention Bush's lead was withing the margin of the error of the poll. Then added, it's still somewhat a good news for Bush. He continued with numbers on terror and easygoing and likeble, the only two Bush's strong points, and thinks that's the major reason why Bush is still leading Kerry in the horse race.

I just couldn't belive that so many people in this country (more than 60%) could confuse low IQ with easygoing and likable!
