Rove tried to kill Lieberman VP pick
Source: Politico.com

Republican strategist Karl Rove called Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) late last week and urged him to contact Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) to withdraw his name from vice presidential consideration, according to three sources familiar with the conversation.

Lieberman dismissed the request, these sources agreed.

Lieberman “laughed at the suggestion and certainly did not call on it,” said one source familiar with the details.

as the first person to lose as a Vice Presidential candidate for both parties.

He's so egomaniacal and possessed with his belief that he's the true Democrat that he will take orders from no one.

3. Wow. Maybe he DID pick him.
The corporate media is going to have to work unbelievably hard to keep this from sinking the McCain candidacy.

4. It was pretty risky to laugh at Rove's "suggestion" as Rove made sure that Joe
kept his Senate seat in 2006. Joe didn't recognize Rove calling in his marker.

5. Is Lieberman the pick? See Ad I found

Just saw this ad floating around the internet - maybe it leaked out early? Who knows. This is not a made up ad - it has been also documented on YouTube as of today.

Possible?

6. So if George... John McCain doesn't represent the McCain campaign...
And clearly the McCain campaign can't be trusted to represent the McCain campaign representing McCain and Rove is clearly not having much success forcing the campaign to bend to his will as LIEberman was such a threat, then who the hell is running the circus???

7. This is really interesting.
If Joe is McCain's #2, there's no chance that Joe won't fight to keep it. He's irrelevant in the Senate, more so next year.

But Rove can't like this pick....this won't help McCain's chances at all. It didn't help Gore in 2000 in FL and that was when he was a Democrat in good standing.

What a photogenic couple McCain and Lieberman will make. Can you imagine how the Republican rank-and-file will just get fired up supporting these 2? I can't blame Rove for trying to torpedo this stinker.

This non-story smacks of manufactured news. We have leaked source material (supposedly) from Rove or Lieberman's people...well, whooptie shit.

19. He should have called McCain, not Lieberman
After all, if you don't want someone to be hired, you call the boss, not the candidate... The fact that this happened, if it did truly happen, shows that McCain is rejecting the GOP's advice and doing his "maverick" thing again, which is really, truly, more like petulance than leadership.

If so, hey, we will all benefit from it. We can run ads with Lieberman kissing Bush and McCain hugging him, hip to hip, and a montage of planes crashing into the sea with The Village People in the background - In the navy.... you can sail the seven seas...

hehe

25. McCain won't pick Lieberman for V.P.
He isn't that stupid. He'd lose the right-most half of his base.

Because of the furor about Obama passing over HRC, McCain's best move would be to team up with Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska.

Then he'd plug Lieberman in for Secretary of State, which would actually be politically astute.

It's all just fluff in the wind, anyway. Obama '08 and '12.

29. Lieberman would be the best choice for McCain
All this "but he's a Jew" thing would offend the fundies won't matter that much. Romney would be worse cause he is a Mormon and no one likes him. Pawenty can't speak. Crist .. to gay.

Lieberman would prevent a challenge from the far right to dump McCain should he get elected. (not being born an American) And he can spew war talk like few others. Maybe FedEx girl.

38. I hope it is Lieberman!
Hopefully he can be forced to resign from the Senate to run, McCain will lose, and Lieberman will be done in terms of a political future.

He wouldn't resign to run as Gore's running mate, and my understanding is that many in CT were really upset with the assh---. If he tries this again, he likely couldn't get reelected.

Good riddance to the schmuck. And, I would love to see the "Loserman" moniker coined by the Repukes make a return performance.

39. Of course Lieberman didn't back down! This is his last chance at political relevance.
He knows that the people of Connecticut won't be foolish enough to send him back to the Senate in 2012, and he knows that the Dems in the Senate won't have much to do with him after their likely increased majority from this election. The only way he remains politically relevant at all would be to be McCain's VP or to have some other post in a McCain administration, which is why he has bent over backwards to kiss McCain's ass ever since it appeared likely that he would win the GOP nomination.

When Obama wins in November (and I believe he will), I can't wait for that little toad to fade away into obscurity like he deserves. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
