ladies and gentleman, fellow DU posters, tonight we make history
over 200 years ago, the founders laid down a sacred document that would be a historical bedrock to which our nation would be built. It was more than just a piece of paper, it was a sacred ideal, a creed, that all are created equal. It was a promise to future generations that greatness is not something to be viewed, but is in our grasps. Though it has not been perfect, it was the way to build better things.
Today, we are making history. Historical moments have been made before. The day Lincoln gave us the emancipation proclamation. the dark day FDR had to lead us into war. The day Kennedy was shot, ending the dream of Camelot, only to have his dreams fulfilled when LBJ signed the voting rights act, and when neil armstrong landed on the moon.
Very few times do we get to be witness to greatness, but far less to we get a chance to be part of that same greatness. The greatest generation were not super heroes, they were ordinary men and women who stepped up to lead a generation against fascism, and to come home and help lead us to equality. And it goes back to the slaves who fled north, to the immigrants who built the railroads in hope of their part, to the people today who come across the borders hoping to give their children the dream.
tonight, a man of mixed descent, of unwealthy background, who has earned his way every step of the way, takes the stage to accept the nomination to be president of the united states of america.
more than anything, we owe it to the generations before us who brought us to this point to reclaim our nation, and to ensure the generations to come have the same opportunity to someday, somewhere, another young man or woman has a chance to make history as we are doing now. that the dream shall not die and that the bright beacon of hope, liberty, equality, and truth shall always remain.
today barack obama is fulfilling the promise of America that has existed for over 200 years, and it is our time, with a renewed sense of purpose, patriotism, and devotion, to reclaim that dream.
now is the time.
"Every generation needs a new revolution."
