That was the best speech I've ever heard
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 01:22 AM by enigmatic
I watched it tonight at the hotel I work at up here and there were 20 or so people (w/ a number of employees) watching the TV while Obama gave his speech. I've been a political junkie since I was 10 and watching Nixon's resignation speech; I never thought anybody could top Mario Cuomo's speech in 1984 but Obama did tonight.

A number of us us were talking about witnessing a political/historical/cultural moment tonight that we could tell "where were you?" stories about when we grow old; I made quite a few new friends as we talked, especially when I told them I was a US Expat turned Citizen up here in Canada. They wanted to know how I felt seeing this; I didn't know really what to say except smile.

It was a historic night. Wow.

2. Yes it was....
I remember feeling like this when I was a kid and ran into candidate for Mayor, Carl Stokes at Mt. Carmel Itlaian parish on West 65th and Detroit. I shook hands with him and my aunt said, I remember this clearly, "That man is making history"...

4. you bet
Carl Stokes broke down a barrier just like Obama is doing right now. The next 10 weeks are going to be something to see; it really is living history..

7. My dear enigmatic...
I haven't heard any others that were better, either...

And after everything we've been put through in this country, that speech was a glimpse of the promised land.

8. Usually I say something smartass.
But tonight was epic. No words can totally do it justice. People will talk about it forever.

13. Yep
I made a few of my 20something employees watch at least a part of this tonight, just so they could tell their children.

10. I hear live JFK's Inaugural speech and MLK 's DC 1963 speech
also live. But I would put this not far below those. I listened to it live on C0-span and then as it was replayed on MSNBC.

14. I would
put it top 10 or close to it I would rank a few speeches a head of it Jfk, Mlk jr., RFK, Malcolm X, and a few others would come before this but this has to be the greatest convention speech ever.

15. I think so too. It really hit home like no other, and these times made it historical.
The same can be said for our convention in many ways. I am amazed of what has transpired in 7 days.
Imagine what can be transformed if we keep this momentum for the next 4-8 years and more. Wow-wee!
