Next time, the Republicans are going to nominate an evangelical
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 08:47 AM by Strawman
The Republican image makers are going to look at the empty seats in that rinky dink 10,000 seat arena McCain can't inspire enough people to fill today, compare it to what they saw last night in Denver, and realize that they just got beat at their own game.

Mike Murphy admitted last night that there isn't a Republican party organization in any state right now that could put on a display like that. He sounded like a beaten man.

The only way they can even hope to pull something off the way the Democrats did last night is by nominating a charismatic Southern evangelical despite the risks that entails. And that kind of candidate will scare and turn off alot of people. When they try it, it will be creepy, like a Promise Keepers rally.

1. The evangelicals are catching on to the GOP
Mixing religion and politics muddies both. And they have been used as tools by the GOP and snakes like Rove long enough. Even the most tenacious zealot can learn some things. And they are learning that playing with politicians gets them burned every time.

2. mccain has gotten some mileage by going where people are already gathering.
Like at that wacky Sturgis sexfest or whatever it was. Maybe the R's can have their next convention at the Super Bowl.

3. A NASCAR event is a more likely venue
But yeah that is what they are trying to do.
