How many women LIKE that younger, prettier women are hired before QUALIFIED women?
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 10:35 AM by redqueen
McCain has so shot himself in the foot.

on edit: this does not mean that I *personally* think Palin is more attractive (although her resume does boast that she's a former beauty queen)... only that by custom, younger women are assumed to be more attractive than older women, and therefore get passed over routinely, despite being more qualified.

17. Correct, I understand the need to drag even this woman down but it remains...
that in doing so too many are utilizing tactics that the right uses against Obama in citing his inexperience. DU is lit up with that kind of thought, and I do think it will be used as a further example of a left-wing shortsightedness that has exulted style over substance. Or so they say but make no mistake they are saying it.

This contest grows tighter by the moment. To not understand that plays into republican hands and admits a less than full view of the field. To be pointing out what is *pretty* versus what is *qualified*, after having sent Clinton down the road packing is imo to exhibit a nuance way too little and waaaaaaayyyyy too late, oh well...

It is what it is.

19. You're excused. Still, to not understand the power of the images being brought forth...
in this contest: red, orange, green, or Granny Smith; is to not understand a process that has the capacity to generate a resultant that will be much harder to swallow and atone for. And that's not just imo, that's the way it is like it or not.

16. I'm a little shocked at some people's opinions of women.
Women will vote this ticket because Palin's a woman. Because, of course, a woman is a woman and we can't tell the difference.

Palin will have to be soft-pedaled in the debates by Biden because he'll look like a big fat meanie otherwise.

Come on. Some of us women are actually able to think.

A little over a year as governor of Alaska does not indicate to me a qualification to be the second in line for the most powerful political position in the world.

I believe she was picked because of WHAT she is not WHO she is.

The fact she's a woman is part of who she is but that is not the reason for her stature.
She earned it herself with ability.

7. I just woke up. can you explain the foot shot??
And even as a very young woman, I hated that such a double standard exists.

I was one of the first women car salewomen, and all I heard about was what I was wearing.

If it was flirty and casual, I was told to wear more business-like.

If it was business-like, I was told to try for more feminine and flirty.

And then the guys telling me this are all pot-bellied slobs in crumpled suits with thirty years of hang overs etched on their mugs.

Then I'd go home and I'd turn on the Tv and the anchor "women" are barely out of college, while the anchor men are in their forties and fifties, as "their" experience is important to lend credibility to the news show.

Jeesh!
