I am angry
I should be happy. McCain picked a totally unqualified running mate.

But I realize why it is that I am angry.

This woman is a reminder of how older, intelligent qualified women are stepped over time and again by the pretty ones. The ones with no qualifications besides breasts and a peppy smile.

We, as women have seen this time and time again since birth. You can be dumb as a rock or mean as a viper and as long as you are pretty, life will treat you well. Those of us who were not blessed with good looks, have to work 100X harder and even then, it's often not good enough.

I am furious that this glorified cheerleader, with no experience, may end up with control if the largest scariest military in the world and no fucking clue what to do with it.

I am furious.

1. Thank you.
And it's not just liberal / democratic / independent women who are disgusted with that bias.

It's the vast majority of ALL women.

185. Palin VP Candidate
At the risk of being flamed, I think some on this forum might be thinking with their hearts instead of their heads. You might be underestimating Ms. Palin and her appeal to the average voter. She is more conservative than McCain, which helps him greatly with the republican base. She is a woman which, obviously, helps him with women. She is a former beauty queen which can't hurt with a lot of men.

You might hate McCain and Palin and all the other republicans, but she has a lot of appeal to millions of voters.

190. I live in a red county, in a red state,
And judging from my neighbors' reactions, Palin may not help the ticket much at all. The most frequent comment that I've heard is that she is a "ditz", who has very little experience and isn't qualified for the veep spot. This worries people, what with McCain's age. These people are conservatives, yes, but they also don't want to see the country run by an unqualified idiot.

And as more and more information comes out about her, her initial shine is already wearing off and McCain's choice of her is being seen as just more cheap, tawdry pandering that won't work, especially among women, most of whom are able to see this for what it is.

Palin's appeal is disappearing rapidly, even in the short time that she's been out front. More and more this decision is reflecting badly on McCain. In a few weeks she could very well be an anchor around the McCain campaign's neck, and will have to either be cut loose or drag down the campaign.

Hell, even O'Reilly and Rove last night were admitting that the 'Pugs could lose in November, something that they hadn't done before Palin. While all the conservative pundits and party hacks are all putting on bright smiles and happy happy joy joy shows about Palin and McCain's campaign, behind the scenes I think they're shaking their heads in disbelieve over this choice and are preparing for the worst come this fall.

Women aren't falling for this veep choice, they see it for what it is, moderate 'Pugs are abandoning the party in droves, and McCain could very well have bit off more than he could chew with this pick.

And this is all in just the first twenty four hours. There are thousands of people dredging up everything on Palin, her high handed method of governing is coming out, her poor governing decisions, her corruption are all starting to come out. She may have looked squeaky clean yesterday, but that's already changed and is only going to get worse.

Sorry, but this Palin pick is going to haunt the McCain campaign, and help defeat it in the fall. Nobody wants a perky but inexperienced autocratic ditz one heartbeat away from the big chair.

50. The Janet Reno effect. Presicely. I've heard alot of men on CNN today
say they like her because she's so traditional: Mom and wife and non-opinionated. She defers to men, even while holding office. She's not threatening. She's their token.

But she's not really being taken seriously. If she were, they'd know she doesn't have the cred to be pres. should gramps kick off.

98. The "Barbie" factor.
Frankly, I don't think any qualifications are going to matter one way or the other. McCain's reputation for chasing skirts is going to get a major workout, even with her hairdo that was last popular when McCain was a POW. And Phil Gramm and Karl Rove probably see her as fresh putty for their dirty hands.

104. True. Even though I don't care for many of her
views, I would have been far more comfortable with Bailey Hutchison. She at least is intelligent and experienced, with knowledge of foreign policy. Like it or not, McSame may win and, given his age, something may very well happen to him during his term. As much as I often disagree with her, I'd feel far better with her as the "heartbeat away from the presidency" and not the completely inexperienced, unknowledgeable shallow cupcake twit. I understand why he may have felt it necessary to tap a woman, but Hutchison would have been a far better, much more intelligent choice.

I think she was in consideration, but, apparently, she and McCain do not get along at all and he doesn't like her. That shouldn't really matter, though, he should follow his own advice and put the country first, ahead of his personal likes and dislikes or what's comfortable for him. There've been many examples of presidential nominees tapping veep choices they didn't like but knew were practical good choices.

while redneck to me refers to someones attitude, these terms refer to where one lives and their poverty. Also here in the north many of our rednecks (close minded racist) live in big brick houses.

At one time I lived in a trailer park and most of my neighbors were Mexican and African American. What do you call them?

At one time I lived in a upper class neighborhood and my neighbors were all white and it became so unsafe for my children in the end that we left not only the neighborhood but also the town and county. What do you call these people? Doctor, lawyer, and busnessman.

i totally agree with what youre saying...

i had already thought to myself, how will i explain this to my grandma and mother who were so excited to have hillary running and standing up for women...
and what you just said was exactly what i was thinking...
you slap some blonde hair on Palin and you have the stereotypical underqualified ditzy pretty woman weaseling her way into the limelight simply based on her being pleasant to look at and willing to do and say whatever she needs to say to be a part of the team.

they are gonna try super hard to make her look like an independent or reformer... but im sorry, doing some logical things like selling air planes your state doesnt need or saying you dont need the money for a bridge after its already been taken away from you are hardly being independent...

9. I don't think McCain sees women as equal to himself- and I don't
think he'd choose ANYONE who he would have to ...'compete' with.

He believes he is the 'be all end all' as far as "Commander in chief" goes. He doesn't "need" a Robin to his Batman, and because he HAD to choose, and choose 'something' that would play to the people, and not be a threat to his own ego- he chose her.

There is no other plausible explanation for this.

I'm pissed at Palen, who has the audacity to compare herself as the equivalent of Hillary, simply because they both have vaginas-

She's a fool, and a pawn, and she's smart enough to know what is happening, and willing to go along with it.

What a poor example for her daughters.

that she's a female. No other comparisons apply.

She's a Republican, gun-toting, animal skinning buddy to big oil and McOily, as well.

The thought of her possibly becoming Commander in Chief makes my blood run cold.

Hopefully, this same thought will drive Republicans to vote for Obama, come November.

Most older women, like myself, know that a lot of older men don't like women to be smart because they know that they would feel dumb if they are in reality about women. 12. studies show the pretty person gets the job over more qualified, less attractive candidates
I read the study years ago when I was going into management and made it a point to not be swayed.

Sexism is an ugly thing and Palin is an example of it, not a showing that McCain is not sexist.

14. excellent post, Marrah!
This is an insult to all the women who have paid their dues and are better qualified than their younger, prettier counterparts. To add insult to injury, those women who feel pressured to get plastic surgery to compete in this market are ridiculed for it. It's a no win situation and it's sad.

Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 12:31 PM by sfam
That said, she seems talented and capable (if not very experienced), if you go for those politics that is. But there's lots of talented and capable people in the world - the vast majority of them have no business being anywhere near the VP slot. Palin certainly fits into that category - talented, somewhat capable for what she's done, but not very experienced - and should never have been anywhere near the VP slot.

But, um, she does have a rather peppy smile...

EDIT: And in truth, as a Democrat, I'm absolutely THRILLED that they didn't choose Hutchinson.

69. I'm not
As an American, I realize there is a slim possibility that McCain could somehow win. And I think the likelihood of him dying in office would be great. If he was going to choose a woman, he should have chosen the most qualified one. This pick is a disgrace, and it is extremely wreckless. Our country would be truly fucked if Palin were president. I think we could still somehow manage if Hutchison were to be president. Know what I'm saying?

In four years she'll be 64 and in eight she'll be 68. No way is she going to get the nom at that age. She may have cracked the glass ceiling that keeps women out, but there is another one right above it that keeps older women out. Sorry, but them's the facts.

that really isn't worth going through again, ya know? Her age at that point may very well be an issue. But my guess is if she still has the desire and is still healthy then, AND combines this with a first class campaign organization instead of what she had this time, she very well may be the nominee then.

Look at Margaret Thatcher. She was so popular despite the fact that she was an older female. And it was the 80's!! I'd like to think we've advanced the cause of women significantly since then.

I think many people believe that the first female President will be someone much more like Thatcher. Older, matronly, paid her dues, devastatingly intelligent, and experienced.

Or maybe I'm just being naive.

Many well more qualified Republican women were passed over in favor of the young, pretty Sarah Palin. She is not at all qualified and is wrong on SO MANY issues, most glaringly CHOICE.

It's a condescending move, in my opinion. He's expecting disenchanted Hillary supporters to switch over just because he chose a running mate with a vagina... and that's pretty much all she has. As if substance and experience are unimportant to them. As if they will blindly support ANY woman - even if they are bad for American women on all the issues.

I think if I were a Hillary supporter, I might be inclined to work even harder against this ticket. Why should this pretty lady with ZERO experience get a spot that belonged to someone like Hillary or even Libby Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Susan Collins, or pretty much any other woman in Republican politics?

It's a dumb dumb dumb move. I hope it reveals to the fence sitters what horrifically poor judgement McCain has.

As someone who voted for Clinton for Senate and knows her hard work and experience, personally I find it insulting that Palin would try and snatch her message down to the 18 million cracks when she stands for everything that Hillary stands against AND has a fraction of the experience that Hillary has.

No wonder Kay Bailey Hutch seemed pissed this morning. McNasty could have chosen a qualified conservative woman (Kay Bailey or Meg Whitman), but he choose the very inexperiened, young, pretty one instead. He chose the former beauty queen (who's husband is a big oil man).

It's mindboggling that he could be so stupid, until you recall that he was seriously considering Joe Lieberman whom his party hates.

John McBush clearly doesn't have any kind of judgement, let alone good judgement.

Knowing his attitude to women and seeing how the GOP normally treats women, it just fucking tells me that he thinks women are so fucking retarded that they'd vote for him just because he chose a woman.

Plus, to basically choose her just to get attention and not because of her eligibility, just emphasizes how much he views women as accessories.

51. It's hard to quantify what I feel right now
As a gay man who knows what it feels like to be made out to be something less than human, I'm pissed that McKook would pick a trophy, because it demeans everyone's struggles for equality, and the need to be adjudged on the quality of one's work and one's own character. Sarah's record points to neither. I'm also not surprised and I am at once saddened; look at who he left his first wife for. There's a track record there. Looks, money and someone who'd feed his own personal advancement. Just sayin'.

As a Democrat, I'm relieved, in a guilty sort of way. He couldn't have given us an easier target and he couldn't have made a more desperate choice. I feel a little sorry for Cindy because you know what's going through her mind, too. Lucky for her that it's doubtful that McHasbeen can even get it up any more. But given his lack of fidelity, you know he'd hit it if he still could. History is a pretty good indicator of the future, if one but pays attention.

Yeah, I'll admit to a bit of smugness on behalf of Mittens, Pawlenty (Fall N. Bridges, I love that), and Arkansas' own Jubilation T Cornpone to be passed over -- their experience (and dirtiness) passed over for a trophy (whose lack of experience is made up for by a surprising amount of dirtiness in such a short amount of time -- filth and corruption, thy name is Republican). Part of me wants so badly to say they had it coming for their own nastiness. But I won't. Not just yet, anyway.

Such a desperate move can only be a visible sign of the impending spectacular implosion of what's left of the party of greed, corruption, graft, war, hatred, bloodshed, violence, nastiness, bigotry, sexism, false prudery, family values that plays out in hookers' bedrooms and men's room stalls, filling Jesus' mouth with volumes He never once said, and all-out, full-tilt idiocy.

To paraphrase Bette Davis: One should never say bad things about the dead. One should only say good.

The Republican Party is dead.

Good.

60. Ah, but time is the great equalizer, even now.
Hair turns grey, breasts droop, faces sag and become lined and curves fall prey to gravity as well. Yes there is plastic surgery, masochistic exercise regimens and any number of other products to halt the march of time, but in the end it is vain. Mrs. Palin's beauty will eventually fade, as all physical beauty does. When that happens, we will see the real person. Will she still be appealing and enjoyable as company (like California Peggy) or will she be a Norma Desmond, a faded and ruined soul, whose only beauty was external and when its gone it reveals an empty, vile and wretched soul without any redeeming qualities.

Lest I be condemned for being too cruel here, I do not know Governor Palin all that well, she may well be a fine person, good mother, etc., etc. All of this will show through despite the looks. My only point here is that looks fade, and those who base their lives on them face a ticking clock that will inevitably discard them for the next pretty little thing.

It is love that makes you beautiful. I know you didn't mean what you said about older women, but I just needed to tell you how it is here in our home. McCain just isn't mature and we need to stop him from having power. I hope our Congress will step up and do what is needed with the new president. It they don't, then it doesn't matter who is our commander in chief. Mrs. Moose

61. I'm really angry too
What an insult to the dedicated older women who do the hard work for so many years when they lose their place in line to the women with good looks, who do no work and walk to the front of the line, spitting their tongues back at the others.

It's a foul thing to do even for the Rethugs. Nasty and foul.

63. Not to be rude but that's not an entirely fair assessment.
People assume that because you're 'cute' you got to your station in life because of your looks and that's not always the case. The most hurtful comments are when fellow women tell you that you were chosen for a particular assignment because of your looks and not your intelligence. Trust me, it's an insult to know that you're being judged by your exterior when your mind is what matters.

As for Sarah Palin, chances are that her looks have gotten her far in the GOP but if she's the best they have, I'll gladly pass. In our Party, we have women like Clinton, Obama and Biden that are beautiful, accomplished and strong. I'd take their accomplishments (and beauty) over Sarah's empty merits any day of the week.

Who was tossed on the trash-heap by her own father at 16, when he apologized for the first and last time in his life because it was his "fault your face is so ugly. Nobody's gonna marry you."

Who was tossed onto the corporate the trash-heap when she turned 50.

And is re-inventing herself yet again at 55, hoping that in a field with a worldwide shortage, somebody will hire her...

My first thought when she was announced is, wouldn't it be a frickin' cryin' shame if our first woman president were a Republican. And you know it could happen within a couple years if McSame manages to weasel his way into the White House. Palin is a strategically devious choice.

This isn't a popularity contest. This is about deciding who will be commander in chief over the largest military, most danger military force in the history of the planet. The past eight years have shown what happens when that responsibility is given to those who aren't capable of shouldering it.

94. An Older Man Who Agrees With All Women who have been

It only shows how cynical and vicious these republicans, too many democrats and others are that anyone would think that any woman would fall for this BS, again, and again and again. Republicans know that there is some large minority of the population that they can keep feeding this horse manure to and they eat it up, and thus win elections. How absolutely disprespectful these repugnacans are of women that they think they can serve up someone who as you say could have her pretty little fingers on the controls of the biggest military machine on the planet. Wouldn't Putin and the Chinese just love that senario. McSame is so stupid, so arrogant and self-absorbed (how could he not be with his upbringing and pampering) that if somehow the american voters put him in office, he will have the biggest bulls-eye on him, just so Miss Cutsey Pie ascends to the Presidency of the United States of America. How juvinile of McShame? Not to mention dangerous. Talk about threatening national security and world stability! McCain is beyond scary, worse than Bush.

To counter this nonsense, Obama should announce today that when he is elected he will appoint Hilary as his Secretary of State. He should every week announce a new cabinet member up to the election, appoint qualified, experienced senior people to show the seriousness of taking over the management of the United States government, and how his team will address the terrible problems that the Bush dumb assess are leaving for the next administration to clean up. How about Carolyn Kennedy as the the Attorney General and charge her with investigating and prosecuting the crimminals from the Bush administration, or Claire McCaskill, a former prosecuter in Missouri. I like her a lot - there is a leader with gumption!

99. Janis Ian said it so well in one of my all time favorite songs...
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 04:15 PM by Juniperx
I learned the truth at seventeen,
That love was meant for beauty queens.
In high school, girls with clear-skin smiles,
Who married young and then retired.

The valentines I never knew.
The Friday night charades of youth,
Were spent on one more beautiful.
At seventeen I learned the truth.

And those of us with ravaged faces,
Lacking in the social graces,
Desperately remained at home,
Inventing lovers on the phone.
Who called to say come dance with me.
And murmured vague obscenities.
It isn't all it seems,
At seventeen.

A brown-eyed girl in hand-me-downs.
Whose name I never could pronounce,
Said, "Pity, please, the ones who serve,
They only get what they deserve."

And the rich-relationed, hometown queen,
Marries into what she needs.
With a guarantee of company,
And haven for the elderly.

Remember those who win the game,
Lose the love they sought to gain.
In debentures of quality,
And dubious integrity.
The small-town eyes will gape at you,
In dull surprise, when payment due,
Exceeds accounts received.

At seventeen

To those of us who knew the pain,
Of valentines that never came.
And those whose names were never called,
When choosing sides for basketball.

It was long ago and far away,
The world was younger than today.
And dreams were all they gave for free,
To ugly-duckling girls like me.

We all play the game and when we dare,
To cheat ourselves at solitaire.
Inventing lovers on the phone,
Repenting other lives unknown,
That call and say, come dance with me,
An' murmur vague obscenities,
At ugly girls like me,
At seventeen.

121. Another song that popped into my mind..by Dory Previn
guess it would be for the first Mrs. McSame

Beware Of young girls

Beware
Of young girls
Who come to the door
Wistful and pale
Of twenty and four
Delivering daisies
With delicate hands

Beware
Of young girls
Too often they crave
To cry
At a wedding
And dance
On a grave

She was my friend
My friend
My friend
She was invited to my house
Oh yes
She was
And though she knew
My love was true
And
No ordinary thing
She admired
My wedding ring
She admired
My wedding ring

She was my friend
My friend
My friend
She sent us little silver gifts
Oh yes
She did
Oh what a rare
And happy pair
She
Inevitably said
As she glanced
At my unmade bed
She admired
My unmade bed
My bed

Beware
Of young girls
Who come to the door
Wistful and pale
Of twenty and four
Delivering daisies
With delicate hands
Beware
Of young girls
To often they crave
To cry
At a wedding
And dance
On a grave

She was my friend
My friend
My friend
I thought her motives were sincere
Oh yes
I did
Ah but this lass
It came to pass
Had
A dark and different plan
She admired
My own sweet man
She admired
My own sweet man

We were friends
Oh yes
We were
And she just took him from my life
Oh yes
She did
So young and vain
She brought me pain
But
I’m wise enough to say
She will leave him
One thoughtless day
She’ll just leave him
And go away
Oh yes

Beware
Of young girls
Who come to the door
Wistful and pale
Of twenty and four
Delivering daisies
With delicate hands

Beware
Of young girls
To often they crave
To cry
At a wedding
And dance
On a grave

Beware of young girls
Beware of young girls
Beware

Especially women. They think that the women of America and especially those that supported Sen Clinton, will fall for this terrible ruse. 116. You make a very good point, but think about this:

It's pretty much the same with guys and looks. Physical beauty gives anybody an advantage.

But there's a flip side to it: beauty can both limit a person and isolate them. If you wonder why beautiful blond women have a reputation for being "ditsy," it's because nobody tells them important things. Other women are envious, and isolate them and withhold important information on all subjects, and men want them for their bodies and will tell them enough to manipulate. You can have a normal IQ, but still be kept very naive.

It's something that every beautiful woman suffers with, from Raquel Welch to Marilyn Monroe, they can't reach the point where they are taken seriously.

The glass ceiling is one thing. There's also the glass box.

explain it very well, but it's the antithesis of what I would look for in a woman. First impressions are too subjective, my first reaction was "oh, noes!, this can't be right".

A young, ignorant, dipshit fundy, a heartbeat away from a kicked-off McCain should be a nightmare scenario for the R's. It will be interesting to see how the media spins this to rally the R's cause.

If I could I would recommend a hundred times, not just for your excellent OP, but for the bulk of excellent replies to your OP.

The only thing that I can add that hasn't yet been said in this thread is that this is classic repuke. They are spitting on affirmative action by playing into their own talking point that jobs for minorities (that of course includes women) will go to the less qualified just to fill a quota. Of course the grey-matter-challenged republicans will never allow their minds to consider the fact that the women that Palin spoke about in her silly speech actually are accomplished women whom have worked for their status, and that there are so many infinitely more qualified women that McMisogynist could have chosen.

I'm furious as well.

131. well, it IS the GOP, so it's kinda hard to find one 'qualified' to be pres, when they have so few
MEN who would qualify either! but, seriously, after seeing why you're so mad - I agree with your sentiments - he picked the hot mom, literally, this mccain fella? he's a complete DOOFUS! this proves it...

132. There are certainly more qualified Republican women he could have chosen.
Not that I would like them either. But Palin is complete winger. This pick was designed to bring those reluctant wingers back into the fold. BUT, it will piss off of moderate independents (I hope, I hope) if they read up on here. Having said that, though, this is a risky pick too because it might piss off those remaining winger Neanderthals who think a woman should be home taking care of the kids. I am thinking (hoping maybe) that a lot of those people just stay home.

I do agree with your take on it though.

154. I wonder if this is a sign that they know they've already lost any chance of winning moderates?
They hoped to paint Obama as too extreme for moderates, that they would now pander so FULLY to fundies says they've pretty much given up hope on that working, and thus attracting moderates and independents.

And we know fundies can't carry them over the line, the very best they can do is provide an implausible cover for another stolen election.

So, are they throwing the election? Are they acknowledging they can never win now and tossing McCain overboard, with a sop to the nutters in case they need them for whatever their next move is? We do know their longterm goal is dismantling democracy, how does this move fit with that?

One thing for sure, they've got everybody guessing with this bizarre move.

it's not actually beauty -- they only give things to the empty ones, who can be managed and bought.

they HATE the women with brains and a mouth.

this really isn't about beauty, it's about being a silent, good blow up doll of a partner.

yes, they like a certain amount of bland prettiness on their arm in a stepford way. but wild beauty? self-contained, self-owned sexuality? You're never going to see that allowed.

the republican party gave us britney, jessica simpson, etc -- the bland, empty, BRANDED and packaged prettiness.

It makes us all sick.

all of my girfriends are enraged right now -- and I have some super gorgeous friends, who are smart and strong as hell. they like empty women -- not real women. and we all feel this and it is very depressing.

and they thought Obama was pissing women off? Get a clue.

I've never heard so many women pissed at the same time.

thanks for treating us like objects, you vile grotesque person.

I didn't care for Margaret Thatcher's politics. But no one can claim that she wasn't qualified for the job and she did a great job for those whose interests she represents.

There are any number of women who would have been more than qualified for the VP pick and this is all just silly creationist, evangelical, fundamentalist bullshit, more than the "pretty factor" IMHO

143. Very true. McCain's choice of Palin is very sexist.
It had very little to do with her qualifications, and a lot to do with her gender, and a very cynical attempt to throw an equal-opportunity dog & pony show, without pissing of the fundie base.

also have a huge edge when they are good looking. Who do you picture being a rich successful investment banker? A tall GQ guy in a sharp suit or a George Costanza?

Of course, I think the reason that good looking men have such an advantage and get hired by other men is because men want to be friends with and/or close to good looking men because they think that good looking women will be nearby in droves.

This choice is so clearly cynical that it's an insult to all voters, women especially.

They think we're all such saps that we'll never see through this. Although there is a distressingly large number of ignorant dumbasses in this country, I don't think enough of them can be persuaded this time around to vote against their own self interests yet again. I hope not anyway. The fact that this race is even a contest is disturbing.

Being a corrupt republican is even more of a deal breaker. I find her viewpoints more repulsive than anything which in turn probably makes her less physically attractive to me. Does that make any sense?

but she was also selected because she's very Reich Wing.

The Republicans need a long sojourn in the wilderness, their next generation is a least as batshit as the current one-Palin, Jindal, Jeb, etc.

175. Looks work both ways. Attractive business women have to work a lot harder to be taken seriously and
not seen as an airhead and a sex object. It's gotten better over the years, though. However, there are some women with no substance who depend on their looks to get them through life. So, those attractive business women have to fight that stereotype in order to be taken seriously and to succeed.

Not defending Palin, just making a statement about beauty being a 2-edged sword.

This is an example of what they think of both women and the electoral process.

It is a disgrace to those who have served and are much more qualified to hold a national office.

It appalls me that the party who has treated women as second class citizens is the one that put a woman on the ticket. That does not say that I am not happy with the selection we as Democrats made in Obama. We all know that Palin is nothing more than a Rovian stunt.

194. As the saying goes:
'I'd rather be pretty than smart. Men see better than they think.'

A woman can't help if she is born as a cultural standard of 'pretty.' One really has no say as to how she/he looks.

I've never seen the 'dumb pretty woman' advanced over other women. I just see not so qualified white males advanced over everyone.

I've witnessed absolute fear in white males eyes when a woman is BOTH intelligent and pretty. Scares most of them to death....Did you read that? I said MOST males, not all.

Sexism is the last ISM to conquer.

You make a very valid point - I hope that any women who mistakenly think that falling for this cynical (and sexist) trick by McCain will benefit them take a moment and re-think their position.
This is another case of quality being overshadowed by the shallow.
McCain is just seeking a fresher beauty queen: His first wife was abandoned when she lost her beauty; Cindy is now aging and he has called her a c... and a trollop (in public); so he is ready for a younger and sexier model. He validates the claims against him of being a womanizer.

Looking beyond the Dana Perino effect. That is that red-blooded straight males tend to forgive 'mistakes' made by pretty women, this plays perfectly into Cheney's World Domination plans.

McSame will have an unfortunate, but convenient, turn for the worse a year into his presidency. Palen will take over. The neo-conmen now have an even more pliable puppet to use than Dubya! They don't want some cranky set-in-his-ways old pro to deal with who may have his own ideas. She's perfect.
