Tweety no more!
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 11:06 PM by union_maid
He's Mr. Chris Matthews to me now. He all but officially stated his opposition to this administration and then Bill Maher encouraged people to riot. What an interesting hour that was!

17. I hope there's a transcript
Edited on Fri Aug-27-04 11:17 PM by union_maid
Maher talked to Matthews, via satellite, about being blackballed by the RNC and how hard it is to get guests when you ask follow-up questions. They talked about that for a while and then Matthews sequed into talking about the choices in this election. He said that did you want someone who was all about go it alone in the world, and he mentioned that Blair and others would be gone soon and we really would be all alone. He mentioned the differences in economic policy in the way that any poster at DU would frame them and also medical research. That was too cool.

Then Maher, as part of new rules said he didn't want a peaceful protest. He said this is NY and he wanted to see the kind of thing he saw on TV in '68. If there's a transcript you've got to read it because it was funny, but he pretty much ended by saying that after the protests if there's anything left standing with "Trump" on it in NYC the protesters won't have done their job.

and Matthews said he couldn't understand people who were undecided. Then he proceeded to differentiate between the candidates, and encouraged people to vote on what they want the country to look like for the next 20 years as opposed to who they'd like to have a beer with.

24. He was talking about how could anyone be undecided. These
are two diametrically opposed candidates. He said people should push it out twenty years as in what kind of country they want to live in.

- Do you want to live in a country that always goes it alone, we have Blair and Musharif (sp?) but they will both be gone soon and then we will be all alone - or - do you want someone who might hesitate some and may even consult France before you go to War?

- Do you want to be dying of the same diseases that we are dying of now - or - do you want someone who believes in science and research?

There was one or two other bits also but I can't remember them.

33. He said (paraphrasing)
(This is all Matthews, not me. And it is just from memory.)

That voters have a choice about how they want things to go for the next 10 to 20 years.

Do we want a go-it-alone policy? Blair and Musharref would be gone soon and then we would really be completely alone.

Would we want an economy where the middle class basically dissipates to nothing? That's the Republican position.

Do we want to cure diseases or do we want the same diseases we have now to be here 10 years from now.

People who watch Fox are like Jack Nicholson in Carnal Knowledge. Nicholson wants to have sex the same way every time. When Rita Moreno says the words slightly wrong, Nicholson can't do it. That is what Fox viewers want, they want it the same way every night.

Yes, Kerry might "hesitate" when it comes to making big military commitments and maybe we want that. He might ask France what they think (and maybe that's not so bad).

... That's the way I remember it anyway. Matthews truly did a number on the Republicans and Fox (naming them explicitly) and supported Kerry (naming him explicitly).

O'Neil's bullshit from the beginning of the show but they didn't (probably not enough time) because someone needed to counter O'Neil's BS - Maher kind of did but O'Neil throws out so many lies and never backs off anything. If he is questioned on anything, he just spews different lies.

26. Ok, let me get this straight
Since I didn't see it.

Chris is now very vocal about his support of Kerry, or his non-support of Bush?

And, largely, it would seem, that this is occurring not out of conscience, but because Rove and Co. blackballed him since he started asking a question or two on follow-up?

So, when Chris turns back to the dark side (and he will, once Rove loosens the spigot of RW talking heads) will we still sing his praises? This is the bastard who pimped non-stop for Bush's illegal war. He doesn't get off easy in book, no way.

He got blackballed because of the way he attacked the Swiftlies. He's probably not really blackballed anyway. There are so many talking heads to go around he'll get some. But the way he framed the issues there really is no going back.

47. Malkin
Maher and Malkin didn't discuss Malkin but Maher actually sort of, kinda maybe, apologized for her treatment on his show. Then he threw out the line, "Makes me feel like I'm still on ABC."

Wonder who was twisting his arm for that? Malkin is a whiny little girl trying to play with the big boys. She is going from show to show shilling a book advocating internment of the Japanese in WWII and for Iraqi detainees now. Thinks racial profiling is just dandy. She is Japanese-American so you would think she would be a little sensitive to this issue but appears she is trying very hard to get in the neocons lineup for "cute, young chick to go on TV and scream for the GOP." Guess Colter has a full calendar.

Don't think we will be hearing Matthews apologize anytime soon.

BTW - Matthews did mention being blackballed by RNC but that his shows for next week are coming together. Don't think he was a total pariah with the repugs - well, until tonight.

I wonder if he'll have any guests on his shows. Maybe he'll have to interview the Democrats' "truth squad" in NYC. I heard they've set up shop a few blocks away from the site.

That speech is the best argument available for Kerry anywhere.

I was stunned. I leapt from my couch and clapped right along with that audience. Amazing.

Of course, if in the course of next week's RepubLuvFestTM I slip up and call him "Tweety" again, everyone will forgive it as a force of habit, I hope!

Tonight, Chris Matthews blew my mind.

62. He did???
I kind of knew Matthews didn't like Bush. I hope he starts attacking Bush hard these next couple of months before the election.

Anti-O'Neill, Anti-SBVFT rally right here in their OWN BACK YARD - Houston - shaming them in front of their "friends", colleagues and neighbors

"Hey, Liars, we are your NEIGHBORS and we despise you! Get out of town!"

67. So the Shrub-GORE Choice Wasn't Clear Enough for Tweety?
If he's saying the KERRY-Shrub choice of directions is clear, what was NOT clear in 2000? Eh, Tweety?????????

He can help us all he wants (FOR NOW), but NO forgiveness OR trust.
