Prediction on Palin: Gone
I want to go out on a limb here and publicly state the prediction that Palin will not be the GOP's VP candidate in November.

I've spent the afternoon rummaging around DU and other places and enough serious questions and nutball rumors have bubbled up about Palin in a few hours that some of them will pan out and she will become a liability to McDiseased. McCain doesn't have the blind, stubborn loyalty that Bush has for his appointees. If somebody gets in his way and is no longer an asset, (s)he's history. Something, or things, will come out and regretfully, he'll ask her to withdraw, and he'll move on.

The irritating thing is that the MSM will fall all over themselves saying what a bold, decisive move it is, McCain's not afraid to make changes or admit a mistake, blah, blah, blah.

1. I don't know. But it's clear, she was NOT vetted properly.
She was a last minute pick because of Obama's momentum.

3. I heard on CNN earlier that McCain has only met her once!
I'll bet she's not fully vetted. This should be interesting.

5. vet what
she is like a blank other than the pro life, pro gun thing...I have been on and off all day and have not seen any speeches, debates or other info to indicate how hard she will be to debate...I don't doubt Biden can take her...I would just like a lil info and there is nearly zip...she is blank slate they can make whatever they need her to be...except ugly..she is hot...lol.

Aww well freepers seem ok with her today but I sense a Harriet Myers like undercurrent...will it take or not...we should know sooon.

2. Nope. McCain will never admit he made a bad pick and dumping her would be politcal
suicide. Look at McGovern and Eagleton in '72--that hurt McGovern tremendously. He wouldn't have beat Nixon anyway, but prior to his sacking Eagleton he was 15-points behind in the polls and afterward he was 30.

4. He won't have to dump her.
She'll withdraw to spend more time with her family when some dirt is about to spill about her.

6. Limbaugh and some local RW media gerbils are already praising Palin as a VP.
She's had more executive experience than Obama and Biden COMBINED is what they're saying.

Yeah.

As mayor of a town of 6000.

As governor of one of the least-populated and developed states in the country.

As head of her local PTA chapter.

You know damned well that if Obama made a similar choice these same dufuses would have been laughing all the way to Election Day over the choice.

12. "She has a *variety* of leadership experience, . . .
and women are better at transferring leadership skills from one venue to another." I overheard some female commentator cawing that out over the TV in the lunchroom today.

7. I hope you are right 'cause
The forced dumping of Palin would effectively end McCain's campaign. You cannot blow a decision like that and survive, especially when you have rolled the dice like he has on this one.

11. He loses either way.
If he keeps her, the failure of the pick grows worse by the day. If he drops her, he looks weak. In either case, it's an edic failure, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

9. I think you're right.
Here on DU, and in the blogosphere in general, she's already getting eviscerated on her hard right-wing positions and her little firing scandal. It won't take long until the media picks up on all of that. It's only a matter of time before she sticks her foot in her mouth, and Obama, Biden, et. al. pounce on it.

McCain pretty much will be forced to send her packing and pick someone else, but hey, that's alright. McCain's VP selection process has already been shown to be a complete clusterfuck, and additional action from McCain on that front can only reopen those wounds. He fucked himself hard.

10. A couple of callers to Randi Rhodes
show just said the same thing. They don't think either McCain or Palin will be on the ticket. They think its a Rove bait-and-switch fake out.

Personally, I hope they are both on the ticket! McCain admits he doesn't know anything about the economy and then picks a running mate who doesn't either. Scary.

19. She is quoted as saying she hasn't given much thought to the Iraq War
And of course she has no idea what the VP does

20. That's really nice since her son is being deployed
on Sept. 11. If she hasn't given any thought to Iraq, where her son is headed, it begs the question why not, what has been thinking about?

15. Hmm...Me thinks she is NOT the real VP pick but a way to keep the attention on McCain for a time
She isnt the pick until its offical next week (assuming they dont move the convention). I dont know much about repub rules so who knows if she can be dropped after being offically nominated, but at least till next thursday she is just a play-thing to see how the msm receives her and what obama has planned.

17. Reminds me of a claim that Biden still had to win the roll call vote for VP
I saw that last weekend. Nonsense. You wonder how stuff like this is dreamed up.

Palin is getting wall to wall coverage on the networks. It's like the GOP convention started today. I don't hear much about Obama's speech. It's all Palin. I checked the football-related sites I post on and the political forums are going crazy with Palin threads, the right wingers finally something to get excited about.

That doesn't translate to November but let's not get stupid and pretend Palin will be expelled.

The only commentator who is ripping Palin is Jack Cafferty. He's probably representative of the swing older male viewpoint, perplexed and unimpressed by this choice regardless of her looks.

You're just suggesting that the vetting wasn't properly done, right?
