Kerry's response to ALL attacks should be
Once again, Mr. Bush is distorting the facts and not telling the American people the truth.

This needs to be repeated over and over til people always think of Bush as a liar. Every Dem spokesperson should repeat it: Bush doesn't tell the American people the truth - about the economy, about the effect of his tax cuts, about what he does to the environment (Clear Skies, etc.), about WMD in Iraq, and now about Kerry. Bush will not repudiate the Swift Boat Liars, today he is lying about Kerry's comments about Cuban dissidents, he lies about all of Kerry's policies, taking facts out of context and presenting them in a completely distorted manner. The American people cannot trust Bush becausee he does not tell them the truth about anything.

This needs to be the theme of the campaign regarding Bush, repeated and repeated.

A second point that can be repeated over and over is that every policy that Bush puts forth benefits the corporate elite at the expense of Americans. There is along list here and in every case the assertion is true.

1. don't forget the part about the coward
the obvious: didn't go to war, despite being a supporter

hiding behind his WIFEY wife's skirts, re: embryonic stem cell research

having slimy, lying surrogates doing his dirty work for him

reFUSING to meet with authentic war hero Max Cleland

invading a country that represented NO threat to us or its neighbors, not to mention having nothing to do with 911

blaming a PRETZEL for not being able to hold his Jack

2. "There he goes again"
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 08:49 AM by Nancy Waterman
Repeated every time he lies. And the lies have grave consequences because they mask policies that are destroying this country. This is another phrase that could use some milage. He is destroying this country with his policies. The debt we are amassing is crippling us. We have lost all respect from the world and in four more years we will have no allies left. Our military is stretched way too thin and reenlistment is down. The environment is being savaged. The only ones benefiting from all of this, consistently, are the corporate elite.

4. I'm getting very frustrated...
that shrub's policy failures are not shouted from the rooftops and, instead, we are fighting the Vietnam War again!!

He has no record to run on and the Kerry campaign must point out that significant fact!!

11. Right out of Kerry's mouth
"He has no record to run on" Kerry says it in nearly every speech. Maybe that's where you heard it and just don't remember.

12. "He has a record to run away from"
Kerry is awesome, but it's hard to see that when the "liberal" corporate media keeps telling us what to think.

14. That's odd
I just heard him say that this morning on the "liberal" corporate media. Anyway, if you don't like tv news, shut the shit off. I hardly ever watch it anymore and if all Democrats would just stop watching it, they'd have to change. They can't get by with their audience cut in half.

9. "GOP sleeper cells"
A great quote from Elanor Clift that we could use:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5843033/site/newsweek/

The Kerry campaign thinks it has succeeded in discrediting the scurrilous attack on Kerry’s military service, but Rove got what he wanted. Instead of talking about a failed war in Iraq and a new report that shows 1.3 million more Americans living in poverty, we’re debating what happened in the Mekong Delta in 1968. The strategy “came straight from the West Wing,” says the GOP staffer. “Nobody should be confused.” Asked to explain, this Republican says Rove is smart enough to keep technical distance. But all it takes is a well-placed wink to activate a web of Bush family hit men, confidantes and deep-pocket donors. “They know what to do—it’s like sleeper cells that get activated,” he says, likening the players to “political terrorists.”

17. I LIKE Fear and SMear! It's a twofer!
Kerry campaign releases have been sharp, young and feisty.
I have been VERY impressed with their style!
Some freak out to be sure.
But Nancy and others are being creative and positive, adding to the idea pool.
JK staff probably read through some of these for extra ideas, ya think?
Even if not, it's a way to give people ideas to test on their fellow citizens.
All to the greater good.

Web of connections letter for a good example...with a great chart, better than NYTimes, for sure!

16. Good Ubermeme, Nancy
A good Ubermeme (or Metameme) is used to tie several smaller ones together.

When some of our friends got together to discuss this, we came up with 3 main ones. With synonyms and word images handy for reinforced effect.

1>Dishonesty- (shifty, flim-flam, con artist technique, 3 card monty, bait and switch, etc)

2>Incompetence/irresponsibility- not just incoherent speech, he doesn't know what his own policies MEAN sometimes. McCain-Feingold and "Saddam wouldn't let inspectors in" comments as two examples...Also Chalabi and other spies running amok with shadowy think tank ideologues...

3>Cronyism/profiteering-Fox meet henhouse...Halliburton, missing billions...etc
Nepotism is a subcategory here.

And one theme similar to "Vote X, piss off the liberal media" on their side--
They Must Think we're REALLY stupid! (Let's prove them wrong!)

Complicity in all sorts of nefarious international dealing was generally felt to require to much education and too easily dismissed as tin-foil, even if backed up by historical evidence. Too bad, but such is the playing field.

A long and wordy kick. Good work!
There they go again. Smack 'em with Saint Reagan's own phrase. HA.

20. And his own attack should be...
...George Bush talks the talk, but he doesn't walk the walk.

Then get into various issues: OBL (wanted dead or alive; oh never mind -- but get both video clips); funding for NYC after 9/11 (get a clip of what he promised, then quotes from others about what was actually delivered); get clips of him supporting the troops, then sound over about veterans benefits being cut; clips of him supporting the NCLB act, then voice over of the funding; clips of him signing the $87B, then voice over or clips if you can find them, of him threatening to veto it -- showing he's more than willing to play politics with it; get the clip of him saying he's "...been to war, and I've raised twins"...

Another similar sound bite: Show the Bush quote. Then a voice with raised eyebrow implied in its intonation: "Is that a fact?". Then show the facts. Then at the end: "George W. Bush: he talks a good game, but does he really know the score? We do."

23. Good one!
It's good to know we don't have to wait for KE campaign of 527s to put out good video clips and/or scripts for others to use. Some DU collaborations passed around in email would be cool for those who have the time. RWingers send these false stories around all the time (Email Boms= EMBs) and we can do the same, except with TRUTH as the base.
I know many who have done great work, like symbolman and so many others, but short little ones that don't take much bandwidth or time, but get the meme spread in many small concentric circles, spreading outward, can do a world of good!

So all those who say "KE should do this or that, dammit" should just make some stuff and spread it.
I will have some stuff up and out if I can get time after major projects finish in Sept.
I may take much of OCT off just to focus on that alone. If I wasn't so deep in debt and mired in time/health issues I'd be further along, (crappy excuses) but go for it creatives!

25. He is also a WIMP
Pushing the meme that Bush is a wimp will speak to the homophobic tendancies of the 'nascar dads' who are buying Bush's macho act.

If they believe Bush is a wimp, they will not vote for him.
