Some CNN footage I heard about this morining.
Someone at the Lakewood parade told me about a Kerry rally where a Young tall Bush supporter got in a shorter older Kerry supporter's face. The Bush supporter started being an ass and the Kerry supporter outright decked the Bush supporter. THese were Kerry people I heard this from and they said that this should show these Republicans that the Democrats aren't wimps. What do you think?

1. Yeah, let's just have a big street brawl to decide who should be president
Oh.... wait.... that would be civil war, wouldn't it?

2. Well, in a FAIR media.....
it would play that way BUT unfortunately the media will probably turn it into a BAD liberal beating up on a lone Bush supporter.

I wonder if it was staged by Repugs to show the public that Democrates are demented and violent. Like they want to show the demonstrators in NY are.

6. I was just reading a thread in general discussion about it
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 01:37 PM by quinnox
I don't think it was a right action by the Dem to punch the guy from what I read. It sounds like the Repub was getting in the guy's face but it wasn't enough to warrant a violent response from the other guy.

If this is the standard where it is acceptable to punch people out then at every political rally there would be rioting going on.

It's a little disturbing to see people trying to agitate others for some kind of thoughts of civil war if the Dems don't win. I have noticed more of this type of talk at DU past few months. Democracy is based on voting to determine the winner, not by violence. If Kerry loses then he loses. Same way with Bush, if he loses. They can still shake hands afterwards. The United States is too important of a country to have another civil war over political differences.

11. Kerry's often quoted poet Langston Hughes "Let America be America again".
We may have to deal out some unpleasantness in order for that to happen.

8. I think this is a sad state of affairs that this country is so divided..I
put the blame on the shoulders of the neo-cons who have done everything in their power to divide this country with their hate radio (rush, savage,etc.....also all this ann colter talk about the liberals that hate this country..when it is people like this who really do the hating.

18. Thank Poppy Bush for a divided America
He's the brains behind their divide and conquer approach. Remember Japan bashing?

That's a big part of the Swift Boat Vet thing. Get Vets to attack Vets and in the mean time they forget all about AWOL, who by going AWOL managed not to offend anybody when the war was over.

10. I hope I am not alone .....
What that man did was assault another human being ....

It was an 'unprovoked' attack ....

Mere words do NOT suffice as justification to cold-cock someone ....

I will not apologize: What the Kerry supporter did was wrong: and he should be arrested for Assault and Battery ....

15. It was on MSNBC.
He didn't "deck" the guy, but he DID get in a good punch to the face. The puncher was a stocky, sturdy looking dude and the freeper was a tall skinny wimp. You should have seen the freeper's face. He didn't know what hit him...LITERALLY! WooHoo! That was SWEEEEEET!

16. I don't condone the slugging
but the Bush guy brought it on himself through his behavior.

Oh, and don't worry, he's only charged with a misdemeanor, so he can still vote in November.

22. Well that video looks 'staged'
a la the freeper woman in F9/11. All you see is a man carrying a Kerry sign slug the Bush guy without provocation and some woman shouting "We have it on video, buddy!" What's the full story here?

21. I don't condone violence
if it's not ok for them, it's not ok for us.

If someone taunts me while I am protesting or cheering on Kerry, I move away from them. Getting into a war of words with them WOULD just make me mad enough to lash out, so the best thing is to move away.

Still, I do have to say it was rather satisfying to watch it.

And by the way, the guy was TRYING to provoke the Kerry supporter and it worked.

Don't let them provoke you. Be the bigger one. Move away and keep on cheering Kerry on!!!
