Bush "has begun reviewing tapes of Kerry's past debate performances"
...this little gem buried in the "I Am Not Going To Come In Second" story, which has already been posted on DU.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=676&e=2&u=/usatoday/20040827/ts_usatoday/bushiamnotgoingtocomeinsecond

"The American people will make a decision as to whether or not my administration has been able to cope with crises and recession, emergencies. I, of course, will make the case that we have been prepared and capable of dealing with the unknown," Bush said. "But the real question is who's got a vision of peace and of freedom and liberty - liberty abroad and liberty at home, liberty at home being having the tools necessary to cope with a changing world. And that's really the question of the campaign."

Bush defended Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, whose resignation Kerry has called for in the wake of two reports this week criticizing top military commanders for abuse of prisoners in Iraq. Bush said he has discussed his support for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage with gay friends and said he has begun reviewing tapes of Kerry's past debate performances to prepare for debates this fall.

Bush sat on a gray leather seat in his office cabin of Air Force One. A flat-screen TV on the wall was dark. Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was traveling with him in the adjacent staff cabin. Bush grinned and gestured widely, leaning forward occasionally to reinforce a point.

He had just concluded a week at his ranch, where he said he worked on his convention speech, read a biography of aviator Charles Lindbergh and, "oh yeah, got out, did a little underbrush thinning, quite a bit of fishing."

1. I have a dumb question
What is it with all the underbrush trimming that this guy does? Is there some point to that? Or is it just fun to buzz stuff down with a chainsaw?

I don't get it...

4. It's his little form of therapy / anger management...
Some people like to garden, some collect stamps, he plays Leatherface in the back yard.

22. "underbrush trimming" is a euphemism for trimming pubes
Bush spends most of his vacation time obsessively trimming his pubes with tiny scissors. He has had four or five different thatch shapes during his terms, sources tell me, the latest shape resembling "Buru Buru Dog," the playful character that has come to replace "Pinny Mu" as Bush's favorite.

3. Bet Kerry is or will be doing the same, both with strategists at
their elbows.

Makes ya think, though, WHEN THE FOOL DOES THIS CLOWN EVER WORK? Every time I read about him he's on vacation or on the campaign trail. Even now, when he's supposedly AT WORK getting ready for the convention, he's fishing *quite a bit* and clearing brush. I believe the fishing but not the clearing brush-it was scorching hot around here this week.

10. God forbid he read a foreign policy book instead!
So, what's he gonna do, try to fly into the stadium or walk out on stage dressed like Lindbergh?

7. I have 3 plus acres around my house and orchard
and I spend at least 4-5 hours a week clearing dead limbs, old growth, saplings etc. just to keep it looking nice.

You'd be surprised how much time you need to spend on that kind of stuff.

And this is Maine where we have 8 months of winter and 4 months of damm poor snow sleding.

17. He spent millions "upgrading" the ranch
and he doesn't have a staff to take care of it? It's the same thing as buying a ranch and not being able to ride a horse - everything is for show....

I just saw an excerpt of an interview - I think Larry King. He said "MY future is important to me".

12. I hope he realizes he can't control the crowd at the town hall meeting
At the town hall debate, he will have no control over the crowd and may face some difficult, if not hostile questions. Kerry has experience handling this. Bush does not, and he has done himself a disservice by screening his sham town hall meetings with only sychophantic supporters.

14. "gay friends?"
He must mean Karl Rove because of his frequent visits to Thailand brothels for their plentiful supply of little boys.

No, no, Mr. President. That's not Gay. It's illegal perversion like your trysts with underage Mexican prostitutes.
